Robert De Niro daughter's daughter, Drena De Niro, shared another heart-wrenching tribute to her son Leandro De Niro-Rodriguez who was found dead in his New York apartment on July 2.
"Thinking of you and missing you every minute of every day since you left. Arrivaderci amore mio: Until we meet again (sic)," Drena De Niro wrote on July 18, 2023, with a carousel in tribute to her only son, Leandro "Leo" De Niro-Rodriguez.
Leo's name is spelled out in flowers with the ocean in the background in the opening image. "Thank you for the incredible outpouring of love from all of you," she continued, "You all know who you are. You've made the unbearable bearable #cantspelllovewithoutleo."
A photo of Leo with his dad, Carlos Mare, is featured towards the end of the slideshow. Carlos has also been posting remembrances of his son in the form of art and photos on social media.
Drena is Robert De Niro's daughter with his first wife, Diahnne Abbott. The Academy Award winner said that he was "deeply distressed" by the death of his grandson. Drena shared the news of his passing via social media on Monday, July 3. She ended her message with the following:
"You were so deeply loved and appreciated, and I wish that love alone could have saved you. I'm so sorry, my baby, I'm so sorry [Carlos Mare]. Rest in Peace and Eternal Paradise, my darling boy."
"Leo, my darling, I love you today like the first day I held you in my arms," Drena wrote two days after Leo De Niro-Rodriguezs death:
"The same man that picked us up from the hospital when you were born drove us to the funeral home where I touched and held you for the last time."
According to news reports, officials had treated the death as a drug overdose due to the materials and drug paraphernalia found near his body. When asked about the cause of her son's death on social media, Drena said that he was allegedly sold fentanyl-laced pills.
Sofia Haley Marks was arrested last Thursday and charged with killing Leandro De Niro-Rodriguez. Sofia, who was also charged with selling the 19-year-old drugs, is allegedly known as the "Percocet Princess." The family did not release a statement after the arrest.
