Nessa Barrett's Parents: Her Family Was Not Financially Stable & They Struggled
Before American singer Nessa Barrett, known for hit songs like "Die First" and "American Jesus," rose to fame, her family faced significant financial challenges but supported their daughter's dreams of joining the music industry.
Nessa Barrett is a singer with over 15 million followers on TikTok and over five million on Instagram. She started her career like other young stars: downloading TikTok, lip-syncing, and dancing to several songs.
Although she wasn't looking for fame or had dreams of becoming an influencer, Nessa Barrett attracted many people, and her dreams of becoming an artist came true.
Nessa Barrett's Parents and Money Troubles
With fame, Nessa's life was opened to public scrutiny, and some fans have made assumptions about her. She's among other TikTok stars, like Zach King, Avani Gregg, Loren Gray, and JVKE, that have opened up to the world.
Nessa revealed that she was bullied often and didn't come from a financially stable family. Despite the struggles, her parents, Drew and Nez Barrett, had a makeshift studio in a closet in their home in New Jersey because her father is a music producer and rapper.
Her mother was more fond of Spanish music. Eventually, they separated, and Nessa lived mainly with her mom. But she recorded her first song at the age of four, which helped her become "comfortable" with the music world.
Her Family Life and Religion
The singer grew up in a Latin Catholic family, but she quickly grew to hate those trips to church after witnessing people collapsing on the floor. Nessa was also disappointed when the community refused to take her mental and learning issues seriously.
But even with her religious issues, she has maintained a close relationship with her parents. Nez joined her 2023 tour, which is still ongoing. When asked what it was like to have her mom close by, she said:
"I've been dealing with a hard year, and I usually try to get her to visit me as much as I can. The last time she saw me was when I was in rehearsals [...] I feel like I love doing this, and I have the team and the crew and all my friends around me who are so insanely supportive, but nothing's like having your mom."
She also recorded her mother's voice for the song "Sincerely," although Nez had no idea that was happening. The singer stressed that her mother was essential for the final cut. She explained:
"I love her so much, and I thought that that would be the perfect closing for me because she really was the one person that helped me get through all the terrible stuff that I've been through. What better way to show that in my song than to have her on it?"
Her Dad Posts About Her
Despite separating from Nessa's mother, Drew seems to have a good relationship with his daughter. He posted a photo with her on Instagram for her birthday, writing:
"[...] My life changed the moment you came into it and has been nothing short of amazing watching you grow up and become the person you are! My Motivation, My Love, My Life, My Baby Cakes! Happy Birthday @nessaabarrett !!!! #ProudParent [sic]."
Nessa also has a younger brother, Julian, and Drew became a coach for his son's basketball team, a Championship team, and often says he's a "proud father."
