Melissa Gilbert's Life on the Farm
Gilbert got to experience life in Hollywood when she was a child actor. But deep down, she had always wanted to live on a farm.
She played the role of Laura Ingalls in "The Little House on the Prairie" and loved everything about her character. It became easy to play Laura because she admired her life.
The "Safe Harbor" star loved being on set with the different farm animals and even had a horse named Peanuts. After spending most of her life in Hollywood and fighting to maintain her youth, Gilbert realized she was unhappy.
So, in 2018 she and her husband, Timothy Busfield, bought a rustic cottage on 14 acres of land in New York's Catskill Mountains. The move away from the spotlight was a dream come true for the actress.
Gilbert, who has two children from her previous marriages, and her husband now enjoy a quiet life with their eight grandchildren.
She married Bo Brinkman, and they share a son, Dakota. After that, she tied the knot with Bruce Boxleitner, and they welcomed a son Michael. The actress then became a stepmother to Busfield's kids, Wilson, Samuel, and Daisy.
The mother of two realized she spent most of her life focused on how she looked on the outside and not how she felt inside. Now she and her husband live peacefully, raising chickens and their dog Chicago.
The couple's home is cozy, and Gilbert has added her personal touch to it. It features a pale yellow exterior, and the inside is homey with a vintage fireplace and a mantel above it filled with teal vases and big lamps.
The living room is also comfortable, but the actress kept the rustic look by adding mismatched couches. The room has a plaid sofa right in front of the fireplace and a big pink velvet couch decked with colorfully patterned cushions. The kitchen has a rustic flare with pans and skillets hanging on the wall.
The yard, which Gilbert has raved about on her Instagram, is big and green. She also has a beautiful garden growing a variety of vegetables and fruit.
