Leonardo DiCaprio and his stepbrother, Adam Farrar, were once close siblings. DiCaprio's father, George DiCaprio, split from his German mother, Irmelin, when the actor was just a year old. George then married Peggy, who already had a son, Farrar.

DiCaprio and Farrar grew up as young boys from Los Angeles pursuing careers in the film business. Today, life is rather different for the two. DiCaprio went on to be a successful actor who starred in hit films such as "The Aviator," "The Revenant," and "Titanic."

The Oscar-winner is also a philanthropist, who has been in charge of several fundraising projects, raising money for his global warming charity "The Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation." DiCaprio's success eluded his brother, who inspired him to act.

Farrar lives a hand-to-mouth life. He worked as a scene painter on poorly paid fringes in the film business. The actor's brother also lives in a rundown suburb of LA in a rented ramshackle cottage.

As Farrar lives a lowly life, DiCaprio lives lavishly and owns a vast property empire. He owns a palm-fringed private 104-acre island off Belize, a $19 million mansion in Beverly Hills, a Malibu beach pad worth $10 million, and a $15 million New York penthouse.

DiCaprio and Farrar used to be very close. When DiCaprio became a worldwide sensation after starring in "Titanic," Farrar became the actor's de facto bodyguard and best friend. The two would party together, and it was during these wild days that Farrar became engulfed with drugs.

As DiCaprio was focused on dating a string of women, his brother couldn't resist the endless offers of cocaine. The actor shunned drugs and never smoked pot. In the late 1990s, DiCaprio lived with Farrar in a rented apartment with another friend, and they would party the whole night.

Farrar enjoyed the constant supply of pot. By 2008, his drug abuse of marijuana and cocaine became a serious heroin addiction. Farrar recalled his brother started keeping his distance from him:

"Leo and I never had an argument. But he started surrounding himself with people that didn't want me around. He's the biggest star in the world and there's me, messed up on drugs. I was slowly shut out of his world."

Farrar confessed that being separated from his brother hurt. He stated that DiCaprio wants to save the world with his projects and money directed to the environment and climate change but doesn't care about his own brother.

What Ruined Leonardo DiCaprio and Adam Farrar's Bond?

Farrar's struggles with drug addiction and his superstar sibling's fame tore their relationship apart. In 2016, Farrar said he hadn't spoken to his brother for years and that the last time he saw him was at his birthday party.

Farrar was invited to the party by a friend, and DiCaprio was pleased to see him and gave him a hug. When Farrar tried to call DiCaprio later, his calls were ignored, and his messages went unanswered.

Now separated from his brother, Farrar lives with his partner Charity Moore. Their only child, Normandie, was placed in the custody of DiCaprio's father, George, and Farrar's mother, Peggy. Farrar and Moore lost custody of their child due to him being in and out of jail.

Before Farrar lost custody of Normandie, he reportedly abducted his daughter in 2014. Farrar and Moore had been arrested on drug charges, and both had criminal histories. So, Normandie was placed as a dependent of the court in California and was not to be taken out of state.

However, when Farrar was released, he and Moore took Normandie with them to Texas, leading to the Los Angeles Police Department accusing Farrar of kidnapping his daughter. Furthermore, in Texas, Normandie, Farrar, and Moore were living out of reach of the LA County Department of Children and Family Service.

Normandie was finally located in Texas with her parents and was taken away from them to live with her grandparents at their home in the Los Feliz neighborhood of Los Angeles.

Farrar further confessed that he was arrested five and six times for petty theft and shoplifting from supermarkets. He stole to buy heroin and support an opiate addiction of half a gram to a gram a day.

DiCaprio's brother said he often reached out to the actor to restore their broken relationship. Farrar was also desperate to see his daughter. As much as he didn't believe DiCaprio was involved in him losing custody of his daughter, he thinks his brother's famous name may have swayed the judge in his ruling.

Farrar said he and Moore hadn't seen Normandie in years, and all they wanted was for their daughter to know her parents. Farrar doesn't want anything from DiCaprio, he only wants him to be in his life since he is the only brother he has. The actor's brother also wants to see his daughter.

As Farrar struggles to be a good father to his daughter, DiCaprio seems to be a great uncle to Normandie. The actor was spotted this summer having fun with his niece along the Italian coast.

After they hung out on the yacht, DiCaprio was seen leaping off and taking a dip into the cold crystal-clear waters as his niece stood and watched. After the family had a fun-filled morning on the waters, they went to the Blue Grotto Sea caves in Capri for an excursion.

DiCaprio and Normandie were in full relaxation mode on a boat as they went into the sea caves. By this point, DiCaprio had changed into beige shorts and a shirt. He had a cap on while his niece was still in a bikini. She rested beside the actor and looked happy and at peace as she scrolled through her phone.

DiCaprio and Normandie enjoyed their summer, but the girl's father, Farrar, or mother, Moore, were nowhere to be seen. After pleading that all he wanted was to have Normandie and DiCaprio in his life, it seemed that Farrar's prayers and wishes were yet to be fulfilled.
