In the caption, Waterson expressed overwhelming pride for commemorating the special occasion with millions of strangers. They also mentioned who Jacobs was in the later part of the post. It read:

"My partner and I watched the parade from #stonewall where pride all began with riots 49 years ago today in the early hours of June 28, 1969 [...] To stand in the same spot where these riots happened holding my partners hand, loving each other is gift I will eternally be grateful for. [...]"

Devery Jacobs and the Power of Indigenous & Queer Representation

Jacobs once reflected on her journey to embracing her queerness in 2020. She said she never realized her identity at a young age and experienced an inferiority complex when she came into her queerness later in life. Being part of the queer community was challenging because she felt she lacked the lived experiences of others.

Despite the limited representation of indigenous queer, she recognizes the importance of being gentle with herself and acknowledging her place in the queer community as she continuously understands her sexuality.

Regarding her career, Jacobs developed a "defense mechanism and a protective barrier" to cope with potential microaggressions she might encounter while working in environments where she was frequently the only queer and Indigenous individual.

Despite approaching her work openly, she also carried these protective layers to navigate such situations. She keenly understood the weight of representing more than herself, recognizing the lack of representation for people with similar backgrounds.

Jacobs was born and raised in Kahnawake, Mohawk Territory, in Quebec, Canada. She had her first acting break when she landed the lead role in the award-winning film "Rhymes for Young Ghouls" in 2013.

She also starred in another movie, "The Sun at Midnight," which earned her the Best Actress award at the American Indian Film Fest. She appeared in various TV shows, including "Cold" "This Life," and "Reservation Dogs." She is among the new wave of young talents in Hollywood, along with Lola Tung, Gavin Casalegno, Sean Kaufman, Christopher Briney, and Iman Vellani.
