While Robbie Amell might not be Stephen Amell's brother, they are cousins and friends who have had a close relationship since their younger days and have collaborated professionally. They share more than a last name and a profession.

Robbie Amell is a Canadian actor and producer best known for portraying Stephen Jameson in "Tomorrow People" and the love interest in "The Duff." He and his cousin Stephen Amell grew up together in Toronto.

For a while, Robbie Amell and Stephen Amell dominated the CW Television Network schedule on Wednesday nights when their shows, "Arrow" and "Tomorrow People," aired back-to-back.

Robbie Amell Is Often Mistaken for Stephen Amell's Brother

When a podcaster identified Robbie as Stephen's brother in January 2023, the actor only corrected him the second time he made the error. "It's fine," Stephen said, nonplussed about the common misconception. As children, the Amell cousins bonded from a young age with pool parties at Stephen's family's home and video games.

Due to their six-year age gap, Stephen said during an interview in 2013 that there was a time he was "a little paternal" towards his cousin, "…and then you circle back to where you can become friends again, and that's where we are now."

They were also part of the same friend group in Los Angeles where Stephen hosted Football Sundays weekly. On co-starring in 2019's "Code 8" with his cousin, Stephen remarked that it can be "weird" as they have different "processes." He admitted:

"So we will have the occasional moment of butting heads a little bit, but I think that is kind of because it's family. Like, you don't know always where to blur the line between this is a professional environment, and we're cousins, and I played with you when you were in diapers."

Stephen explained that while his cousin is very easygoing, he likes a schedule. He explained, "when something rolls off his back, and it hits me right in-between the eyes." Though older, he looks up to Robbie for his ability to be passionate about something without taking things personally.

Stephen Amell's Family Is in Education

Stephen's sister Andrea Amell Rees graduated from Branksome Hall, an independent girls-only school, in 2003. When their mom Sandra Bolté, on the faculty and an alumna, got remarried to John Burns, the siblings gifted an endowment to the Branksome student aid fund in the couple's name.

The CW show only ran for two seasons and shared a stunt department with "Arrow."

Andrea is a pedagogical coordinator at the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology in Saudi Arabia and shares a close relationship with her brother. His wife, Cassandra Jean Amell, called her a "lovely sister-in-law" on Instagram.

Robbie Amell's Career Had a Few Overlaps with Stephen Amell's

Besides starring in "Code 8," the cousins also produced the film, which began as a short of the same name in 2016. While "Code 8: Part II" was in post-production at the start of 2023, Stephen Amell expressed interest in making more movies in the series.

Robbie acted in local stage productions as a child, making his big screen debut in "Cheaper by the Dozen 2" opposite Steve Martin, Bonnie Hunt, and Hilary Duff in his teens.

Robbie Amell worked steadily, landing guest starring roles on TV and film, but gained more revocation when cast as the lead in "The Tomorrow People" in 2013.

The CW show only ran for two seasons and shared a stunt department with "Arrow." He later starred as Ronnie Raymond on "The Flash," part of the "Arrow's" extended universe.
