Police Officer Stops Lady Driver with Passenger on the Road — She Opens the Door & Mouths ‘Help Me'
Kayla Wallace was about to end her shift when she noticed a car driving through a red light. She stopped the car, saved a woman in danger, and arrested a person involved in a crime. She was praised for her hard work and dedication.
Kayla Wallace, a police officer in South Carolina, is being awarded for her dedication to her work. She was just following protocol and did not think her shift would end with her arresting a suspect for a crime that had just been reported.
The North Myrtle Beach Police Department reported that Wallace was about to wrap her shift and was patrolling in the early morning hours when she noticed a white Jeep drive through a red light.
Wallace followed the car and asked it to stop. In the car was a female driver and a male passenger. The driver reportedly looked distressed, while the passenger just kept his head looking forward, which was when the woman in the car took the opportunity to mouth, "Help me" several times.
The officer analyzed the situation, asked the passenger to get out of the car, and placed him in the back of her police vehicle, then went back to the driver to find out what the issue was.
Why Did the Women Mouth “Help Me’?
When Wallace got to talk to the driver, she explained that the man in the passenger seat had just shot someone and forced her to drive away at gunpoint.
"She stated that she was under so much stress that she did not see that the stoplight was red," wrote Wallace in her report. A few moments after the woman confessed, a "be on the lookout" (BOLO) alert was sent about a white SUV Jeep with no license plate involved in a shooting.
The man reportedly responsible for the shooting was described as a black male wearing blue jeans and blue and white Jordan sneakers, which matched the passenger in the white Jeep.
Officer Wallace reportedly did not know about the shooting until the alert was sent. She was just doing her job by stopping a vehicle that drove through a red light. Nonetheless, the few minutes of her shift ended with her arresting the suspect.
The man faced charges of attempted murder, kidnapping, and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. The gun was allegedly found under the car seat.
Wallace was praised for making the arrest, but the North Myrtle Beach Police Department has shared many of her milestones at the department. In 2021 she was sworn as a police officer after beginning as a lifeguard.
The North Myrtle, Beach Police Department also congratulated the officer when she graduated and wished her a successful career. Wallace did not disappoint and continued to achieve more goals.
The following year, the department recognized Wallace as the officer of the year. "Officer Wallace was selected because of her proactive policing efforts. She is a great example of a dedicated guardian for our North Myrtle Beach community," stated the Facebook post.
