In an interview, McBride expressed her perspective on the characters' romantic involvement and her enthusiasm for her character's opportunity to open up and experience a little romance.

McBride discussed the sweet scene moments between her character Carol and King Ezekiel, portrayed by Payton, recounting how they wanted their initial on-screen kiss to be as natural and comfortable.

McBride and Reedus were initially set for a spin-off, but the actress decided not to pursue it.

She disclosed that several takes were needed for the scene, involving a lot of kissing, which she admitted was an enjoyable experience. However, their on-screen relationship ended following the death of their adopted son, Henry.

Even so, McBride felt at the time that their romance wasn't over yet, despite their separation in the season Nine finale. She said:

"I think they really have a beautiful relationship and it was a wonderful fairytale for Carol. The magic of the Kingdom, the liveliness of the Kingdom... I don't think that they're finished."

In an interview, Payton shared his reflections after concluding the filming of the series. He revealed that one of the initial aspects he thought about when he returned home was his time working with McBride on "The Walking Dead."

He expressed that what he would miss most about the show was working with McBride. Payton praised her as an exceptional acting mentor, highlighting that he consistently learned something insightful and delicate from their shared moments on set. He added that the experience of being on set with McBride was always magical.
