- One day, the man invited his friends over, unaware they would manipulate him to break his promise to his fiancée.
A 24-year-old man with the username "Sufficient_Pen_607" posted about his 30-year-old brother Dave on Reddit. He shared Dave's story and asked the online community if he did the right thing after what happened to his older brother.

Before jumping to the main story, the man shared that Dave got engaged to a 36-year-old woman, Tanya, who was highly educated, successful in her career, and beautiful. The woman owned a 5-bedroom house and two cars.

According to the Redditor, Dave did the best thing by proposing to Tanya. He said she was "way out of his league" because of everything she had accomplished at such a young age.

After the couple got engaged, Dave moved into Tanya's lavish house and soon stumbled across a custom-made safe in her closet. When he asked her about it, she said it had some important documents and money but did not share the password with him.
Why Did the Man Become Interested in Opening the Safe?
Dave was at a bar with his younger brother and friends one day when he opened up about Tanya's safe. The Redditor recalled that he wasn't interested in learning more about the safe, but one of Dave's friends, Carl, asked him more about it.

Curious about the safe, Carl asked Dave what was inside it, how big it was, and did it have a voice-controlled system. Dave told his friends he had no idea what was inside the cave, to which everyone made him feel like it was his right to know the passcode.
They made Dave believe he was "entitled" to know the code since he would soon tie the knot with Tanya. Pumping him up, his friends devised strategies to make Tanya give him the password, but the Redditor thought that was not okay. He tried to intervene, but Dave's friends shut him up, saying he didn't know how things work between couples because he was single.

Soon after speaking to his friends, Dave talked to Tanya about the passcode, saying their relationship lacked trust. He argued that she needed to be honest with him and tell him the passcode, to which Tanya eventually gave in. However, the passcode came with a condition. The Redditor revealed:
"Eventually, Tanya agreed to give him the code, but under the promise that he would only ever go in there if Tanya passed before him."
How Did the Man Find Out What Was in the Safe?
Feeling like a "big man" after getting the passcode, Dave told his friends and brother about it. Soon, Tanya left the town for work, so Dave invited his friends and brother over for a good time. Little did he know that the meetup would turn into something embarrassing.

Once his friends arrived and began discussing Tanya's safe, they said he had lied about the passcode. Eventually, they pressured him into taking him upstairs to Tanya's closet, but the Redditor did not accompany them because he knew it was wrong. He recalled:
"When Dave opened the safe, the only thing that was in there was a note inside saying that if he ever confronted her (Tanya) about this, then the relationship would be over, no room for discussion."

What was supposed to be a fun meetup turned into a humiliating experience as Dave's friends made fun of him. Eventually, Dave kicked all his friends out while his brother stayed back with him.
When the brothers discussed what had happened, Dave said he was "hurt" and "embarrassed" and blamed Tanya for manipulating him. He asked the Redditor what he thought about his situation to get another opinion.

"He had it coming," the man said in his Reddit post. He believed Dave was to be blamed because he allowed his friends to manipulate him. He felt Dave shouldn't have shared the passcode with his friends.
Do you think the Redditor was right about his brother? Or did Tanya really manipulate her fiancé? What would you have done if you were in Dave's shoes?
