‘Worst Newlywed Family Pose’: Eddie Murphy Mocked for ‘Weird’ Pic from Son’s Wedding — Inside Widely-Discussed Event

Being at the same wedding as one's ex can be awkward, but that is not why the photo of Eddie Murphy, his former wife, Nicole Murphy, with their son and new daughter-in-law, caused a stir.

The "Dream Girls" actor was married to Nicole for 12 years, and had five children. She filed for divorce in 2005. Since then, the former couple have appeared in plenty of photos with their children without fanfare.

At the premiere of their daughter Bria Murphy's movie "Amateur Night" in 2016, Eddie and his ex linked arms with their child as they did a group shot that included their other daughter Shayne Murphy and the actor's long-time fiancée Paige Butcher.

Similarly, they looked at ease at Bria's wedding last year to "A Christmas Mission" actor Michael Xavier. The actor walked her down the aisle, and later, he posed in multiple photos with Nicole and Bria.

"This picture is confusing," an Instagram user said in a comment with over 2,600 likes. "I thought Eddie Murphy got married." They were not alone in misinterpreting the photo taken by wedding photographer Bradford Martens.

"100%," one agreed of the exclusive snap on PEOPLE's Instagram, "same lol," another seconded, with a third echoing, "same!!!" The family portrait in question was taken on Saturday, September 9, 2023, at the wedding of Myles Murphy and Carly Fink.

Due to their body language, with Carly turning towards her new father-in-law, it looks like she is with Eddie despite her holding her new husband's hand, who is on her other side.

To add to the visual confusion, the bride's bouquet of long-stemmed white flowers rests perfectly between her and Eddie Murphy. "Worst newlywed family pose ever," a person declared and was soon backed by over 800 likes and a chorus of commenters.

"AGREED," one said, "yep," another concurred, while a third wrote, "bizarre." Eddie's partner, Paige, is not featured in the photo. "Who is their photographer???" one asked:

"The placement is odd. Looks like Eddie Murphy is with the bride… strange."
