Kathy Maher Is Bill Maher's Only Sister

Kathy is the only daughter of William Maher Sr., a news editor for NBC, and Julie Berman. Because of her father's job, she and her brother were exposed to political conversations and pressing issues, such as civil rights. Sadly, William Sr. passed away in 1992 due to cancer.

She was raised in a religious home and would attend church with her father and brother every Sunday.

Kathy's parents had different religions: her father was Irish Catholic, and her mother was Jewish. She was raised in a religious home and would attend church with her father and brother every Sunday. Meanwhile, their mother would stay at home. Bill recalled:

"We went to church, which I didn't hate as much. I was with my father and my sister, so I felt safe. It wasn't scary. It was just boring, and I thought, 'What are they rambling on about?' Half of it was in Latin."

Kathy's mom wasn't a practicing Jew but did not deny her religious inclination. However, it did become an issue when she got married. William Sr.'s parents were horrified when he decided to marry a Jew.

Kathy Maher Lives a Private Life

Unlike her brother, who followed a career as a standup comedian and actor, Kathy lives a private life and rarely appears in public. However, she was featured in her brother's Facebook post in 2010, where they smiled side-by-side.

Kathy's profession is entirely different from her brother's as she became a teacher. "They weren't the religious side of the family," Bill said. "They didn't deny their Judaism, though." Kathy's brother grew up an atheist who doesn't engage much with his religious roots.

Bill is known for his appearances in "Ratboy" and "DC Cab." At the beginning of his career, Bill was in ABC, then moved to Comedy Central. He has since been praised by many outlets, including Elle, the New York Times, and US News & World Report.

Bill Maher remains unmarried as he is not the type to tie the knot. His last confirmed lover was Anjulie Persaud, the last known in a long dating history. Their relationship began in 2014, and whether they are still together remains unknown. Bill hasn't been seen with the singer-songwriter for some time.
