Piper Maru Klotz drew her first breath in Vancouver, Canada, on September 25, 1994, born to Gillian Anderson and Clyde Klotz. Her parents divorced when she was a toddler, and she grew up as an only child in the United States until she was 12.

By then, her mother had found new love with Mark Griffiths and was expecting her younger brother, Oscar Griffiths. That's when they moved to London, England, where Piper has since remained and established herself as an artist and designer.

Piper's venture into the art industry began early. In 2000, she appeared in an uncredited role as Little Girl in the Hallway in the romantic drama "House of Mirth." Her mother, Gillian, led the film as Lily Bart opposite Laura Linney and Terry Kinney.

It was the only onscreen role Piper ever took, and she later preferred to work behind the scenes. Between 2016 and 2018, she served in the art department on a few episodes of "The X Files," a crime series Gillian led alongside David Duchovny until the latter year.

Piper was also an art assistant for an animated film short called "Inanimate." Her work in TV and film is minimal, as the 29-year-old has dedicated most of her attention to craft-making. She had an official website where she sold artwork but closed the online shop at the beginning of 2023.

In a lengthy and reflective post on her Instagram page, Piper announced she wanted to move away from creating digitally and lean more toward using her hands. She planned on doing so by focusing more on her studio, Maru Objects (launched in 2022), which offers art, homeware, and games.

In April 2023, Piper celebrated six years of romance with her beau, Ed Salisbury, with a humorous Instagram tribute. She shared a snap of their photos, which looked similar to mugshots, and captioned:

"Partners in crime for six years [...] I promise we're happier than we look."

Like Piper, Ed has an active social media presence. On his IG bio, he described himself as a British Freeskier Mountaineer, a sport to which he has dedicated much of his content, and a Climate Activist.

A Glimpse into Piper Maru Klotz's Relationship with Her Mother

Gillian protected Piper from the spotlight when she was little, though the actress sometimes shared insight into their relationship. Despite her work demands, she prioritized spending quality time with Piper at least once a week.

She developed a close bond with the London-based artist and has taken her as a date on the red carpet a few times. The pair made headlines when they attended the Olivier Awards at the London Royal Opera House in April 2015, twinning in black strapless dresses.

Two years later, Piper, who hosted an exhibition in early 2021, accompanied her mom to the premiere of Netflix's "The Crown" Season Two. Gillian later joined the series as Margaret Thatcher, alongside Imelda Staunton, Claire Foy, and Dominic West.
