Brandy's only child, Sy'Rai Smith, thought her mother was "embarrassed" by her because of her weight. However, those were only the youngster's "insecurities," as her famous mom never felt indifferent about her appearance. In November 2021, Sy'Rai appeared on the now-defunct daytime chat show, "The Real," where she spoke candidly about her weight journey.

The young woman revealed to television hosts Jeannie Mai and Adrienne Bailon, who co-hosted with Loni Love, that her beloved mother, Brandy, has always supported her. She said:

"She always knew that I was beautiful, and she supported me whether I wanted to lose a lot of weight or not. She always told me that I was beautiful. Always. I always felt a little bit like the odd one out."

Sy'Rai mentioned that her entire family was in the limelight and felt left out. But she shared they still adored her despite her weight. The now-21-year-old shed weight to correct health issues.

In July 2021, the California native posted before and after pictures of herself in a slide video on TikTok. The ten-second clip showed her significant weight loss through the years. "I'M BACK...." Sy'Rai captioned her post.

Most recently, on October 3, 2023, Sy'Rai took to her Instagram page and posted three images of herself, which displayed her slimmed-down body. She sported blonde hair with a black and white dress and wrote, "Just a little conceited."

Fans commented on her post, with one person writing, "Slide 2. You are your mother's child." Someone else concurred, "So pretty. Your mom's twin baby girl." A third Instagram user echoed the same sentiments, penning, "You look just like your mom Brandy."

Sy'Rai Smith Followed in Her Mom's Footsteps

Legendary singer Brandy welcomed her daughter with record producer Big Bert on June 16, 2002. In a May 2012 interview, the "Right Here" hitmaker talked frankly about motherhood, saying:

"I love being a mother because having a child inspires you to be a better 'you.'"

Brandy also touched on the difficulties of being a parent and divulged that she realized she was far from "perfect" and that "mistakes" are inevitable. "But you do the best you can," the songwriter explained.

The mother of one, who starred in the '90s television series "Moesha," also revealed she taught her daughter to remain her authentic self, adding at times, people lose themselves when they do not have a rock-solid foundation.

Notably, Brandy's daughter also followed in her singing footsteps. Sy'Rai once disclosed that she started taking music seriously when she was 16 and began writing music at that age.

She told her mother she wanted to work on a project, and her mother helped her "perfect" it. Sy'Rai revealed that her music style includes a mixture of R&B, pop, and a little bit of everything.

"But you'll hear a lot of my mom's influence," the young singer added. Brandy vocal produced her child's project, and Sy'Rai said her mother was hard on her when she trained her in the studio.
