As the bride knelt in her white dress, a bridesmaid held the microphone in front of her so she could say her vows.

The woman went on to explain that their marriage went beyond the love they felt for one another – it was about God and their mission on Earth.

A Bride Knelt Before Her Husband as She Said Her Vows

She lovingly looked at her husband and began speaking about their love for Christ. Then, she said the most controversial thing, "I promise, and I vow that in heaven they hear, and on Earth [I] declare and decree, I shall be a submissive wife onto you."

The woman went on to explain that their marriage went beyond the love they felt for one another – it was about God and their mission on Earth. She was saying this while kneeling, as her husband stood, looking down at her and nodding his head in agreement.

While people at the wedding itself seemed to think the bride's gesture was noble and pure, people who watched the video clip on the internet had other opinions. In fact, they were appalled that the bride chose to kneel in front of her husband.

Internet Users Slammed Both the Man and Woman For Their Actions

People on Twitter believed kneeling in front of her husband wasn't necessary. However, others felt that if the bride thought it was the right thing to do, then the groom should have knelt and met her halfway.

"If a woman is going to pour her all into loving you, you should meet her halfway. He could have gotten down with her as a real man," a user commented.

"God forbid, please," one woman wrote after watching the video.

"Being married 53.5 years, I can tell you, this isn't the way to do it. Marriage is a partnership, certainly not one being submissive to the other," another echoed.

While others didn't agree with the bride's decision, others supported and lauded her for her commitment to her husband. One man went so far as to say that the bride was "the woman we all as men pray for."

With so many mixed reactions about what transpired, people are torn whether it was the bride or the groom in the wrong. Others wondered whether there was anything wrong with the gesture at all.
