Becoming a grandfather was something that came as a pleasant surprise for Manilow as he admitted that he had never even thought about becoming a father, to begin with. Nonetheless, he and Kief, who is also his manager, are elated, and of his experience stepping into grandfatherhood, Manilow expressed:

"I'm watching this little girl—she's 2½—grow up and learn. This is a brand-new experience for me, and I really am enjoying it."

What makes the milestone even sweeter is that Manilow raised Kief's daughter with her dad and watched her grow into a first-time mom after meeting her when she was just one year old. Kief and Manilow are now doting grandfathers to the precious little girl nine years after tying the knot. The couple has been going strong ever since they met in 1978.

A Brief Glimpse into Barry Manilow and Garry Kief's Relationship

A few years after ending his first marriage with his high school sweetheart, Susan Deixler, Manilow met Kief. The iconic musician spoke about how lonely he was before meeting Kief and finding it endearing that his husband initially didn't even know what he did for a living.

He went on to say that the two just saw each other as ordinary people and treated each other accordingly, without all the glitz and glam airs that tend to come out when dealing with a celebrity. Of their initial encounter and how he felt, Manilow divulged:

Although they started dating and went on to get married in April 2014, Manilow did not immediately make his sexuality known to the broader public. When their marriage made headlines in 2015, Manilow worried that his fans would be disappointed in him, but to his pleasant surprise, they wholly embraced him and Kief:

"When they found out that Garry and I were together, they were so happy. The reaction was so beautiful—strangers commenting, 'Great for you!' I'm just so grateful for it."

By the time the happy couple were in their third year of marriage, they had already been together for four decades. When previously asked about what the secret to their lasting love is, Manilow quipped:

"Separate bathrooms..."
