The family of the beloved actor has spoken up about the unexpected incident. "We are heartbroken by the tragic loss of our beloved son and brother. Matthew brought so much joy to the world, both as an actor and a friend," the family said.

The actor was raised by his mother, Suzanne, and father, John Perry. They welcomed the renowned actor in 1969 but separated when Matthew was only nine months old and when his mother was 21.

Although John and Suzanne never had more kids together, they welcomed more children in their respective marriages. His mother married Keith Morrison, who worked at "Canada AM" and went on to host "Dateline" on NBC.

Suzanne and her husband welcomed a daughter, Caitlin, in 1981, and she became Matthews's first half-sibling, whom he was said to have loved "instantly." He had the same feeling with his second half-sibling, Emily, who arrived in 1985. The proud brother said his sister was "blond and cute as a button."

Suzzane and Keith welcomed two more children: a son in 1987, Will, and another daughter, Madeline, who arrived in 1989. Although Matthew loved his blended family, he admitted to struggling to find belonging. Eventually, when he was 15, he decided to move in with his father in Los Angeles.

John and his second wife, Debbie, welcomed a daughter, Maria, together. Matthew described his sister as the "hub of the Perry family" and appreciated how much she tried to console him during his near-death health scare in 2018.

The "17 Again" star also loved his father's second wife, describing her as the "catch of the century" and a "lovely woman." Matthew always loved kids. He said his first half-sibling arrived when he was ten years old, and he loved playing and babysitting every sibling that followed.

In his memoir, Matthew reflected on the support he received from his sibling when he had his colon rapture in 2018. He remembered waking up and spending all the time he could get with his "beautiful" sisters, who he described as "funny and caring."

When he looked back at the time, he saw the faces of his brothers and sisters looking over him. Matthew said he tried his best to make them laugh. But what he appreciated the most was that they never left his side. He said, “They never dropped the ball once, any of them, never turned their backs on me, ever."

When he came close to death in 2018 and being told he had a 2% chance of surviving, Matthew found solace in relying on his family during the difficult time.
