Upon her mother's advice, Adele mustered the courage to engage her husband in a serious conversation. However, their dialogue swiftly transformed into a tempestuous argument, leading to their separation. Just a week later, Adele makes a shocking discovery - her mother on a romantic rendezvous with her husband.

Adele walked up to a restaurant chosen by her 45-year-old mother, Linda for their meeting. The place, nestled in a quieter part of the city, exuded a quaint charm. The warm glow of the interior lights spilled onto the street, creating an inviting ambiance.

As she entered, the hostess greeted her with a warm smile. "Good evening! Welcome to our restaurant. How may I assist you tonight?" she asked, her voice friendly and inviting.

"Hello, I'm here to meet my mother. She should already be here," Adele replied, glancing around the unfamiliar setting.

"Of course! Let me take your jacket, and I'll show you to your table," the hostess offered, assisting Adele with her coat.

Adele followed the hostess, her steps echoing softly on the wooden floor. A mix of curiosity and apprehension about her mother's intentions filled her thoughts.

They reached a table where Linda was seated, along with a well-dressed man Adele didn’t recognize.

Her mother stood up as they approached, her face beaming. "Adele, darling, you're here! Come, join us," she had said, gesturing toward the vacant chair beside her.

Surprised by the presence of the stranger, Adele hesitated before asking, "Mom, who is this?"

"This is Mr. Thompson, my friend's son. Mr. Thompson, this is my daughter, Adele," Linda had introduced them, her voice tinged with excitement.

Adele had offered a polite nod to Mr. Thompson. "Pleased to meet you," she said, maintaining her composure despite the unexpected situation.

"The pleasure is all mine. Your mother speaks very highly of you," Mr. Thompson had responded with a polite smile.

Adele sat across from her mother and Mr. Thompson, her hands folded tightly in her lap. She offered Mr. Thompson one more polite nod before turning her attention to her mother with an inquisitive and slightly wary expression.

"So, why have we gathered here today?" Adele asked, her voice calm but with an underlying current of frustration.

Linda, with an air of nonchalance, gestured towards Mr. Thompson. "I thought it would be nice for you to meet Mr. Thompson. He's a very successful businessman."

"Indeed, I've been quite lucky in my business endeavors. But that’s not everything about my personality," Mr. Thompson, trying to ease the tension, chimed in.

Adele, her patience starting to fray, cut in sharply. "Mom, what's really going on? Why are you doing this again?"

Linda feigned confusion, a well-practiced look of innocence on her face. "What do you mean, Adele? I'm just introducing you to someone."

"You know what I mean," Adele pressed, her voice growing stronger. "Setting me up with other men. I'm married, Mom. I'm not interested in anyone else."

Linda acted puzzled once again. "Setting you up? Oh, Adele, I'm just making introductions. That's all."

Adele's frustration was palpable. "No, it's not just that. You're always trying to match me with someone else, completely ignoring my feelings, my marriage. Why can't you accept that I have a husband whom I love?"

Linda sighed, her tone shifting to one of disappointment mixed with a hint of superiority.

"Adele, be realistic. Your husband is a loser and barely a writer. He had one lucky break with a book, and that's it. It's probably all he'll ever achieve."

Adele leaned forward, her voice laced with emotion. "Don't talk like this. Yes, he has a creative crisis right now but writing is his life. It's not about immediate success or luck."

"Darling, look at the facts. It’s been half a year with no new book. He was lucky once, but what about now? You deserve stability, someone like Mr. Thompson," her mother countered, her voice firm and unyielding.

Adele, her eyes alight with a blend of determination and frustration.

"But what if I don't want that kind of stability, Mom? Why can't you understand that my happiness doesn't hinge on living in a grand palace, surrounded by a sea of servants? I find joy in a simple, genuine life in the suburbs, doing what I love, and more importantly, with the person I love."

Linda, eyebrows furrowed in disapproval, responded sharply, her words laced with concern and a tinge of scorn.

"Adele, you're blinding yourself to the reality. Your husband has comfortably settled on your shoulders, becoming a burden you shouldn't have to bear. How can you even speak of happiness in such a situation? You've been shouldering the expenses for both of you for half a year. What kind of man willingly lets that happen? From what I've seen, he hasn’t shown any initiative to find a job. He's just coasting along, living off your hard work. It's not fair to you, darling."

Adele's face flushed with a mix of anger and sadness, her eyes glistening with unshed tears because deep inside, she knew there was part of truth in her mom's words.

Couldn't control her emotions, Adele stood abruptly.

"He's dedicated to his art. But lets talk not about Lucas, I can't believe you're still trying to control my life, even suggesting I should break up with a man I deeply love. I'm sorry, Mr. Thompson, but this is not right. I have to go."

Linda reached out, a pleading look in her eyes. "Honey, please listen to mom. Your Lucas won't make you happy."

"But I'm already happy, Mom. I'm asking you one last time. Stop wooing me to other men. I'm not going to leave Lucas," Adele replied firmly, her voice steady yet tinged with frustration.

Her mother sighed, a look of resignation crossing her face. "Okay. No offense, I just want the best for you. Please, at least think about what I said. You deserve the best man in the world," she said, her voice softening.

Adele turned away, feeling a mix of disappointment and irritation. Her mother's words, though well-intentioned, felt like a heavy weight on her heart. She hated having this conversation.

As she stepped out of the restaurant, the cool night air hit her face, offering momentary relief from the heated emotions inside. She couldn't shake off her mother's words. They lingered in her mind, stirring a whirlpool of thoughts.

Adele waved down a taxi, the yellow car pulling up to the curb. She got in, settling into the seat with a heavy sigh. She pulled out her phone and texted Lucas, "Everything went terribly, I'm already going home."

As Adele drove home, her mind was a whirlpool of emotions, replaying her mother's words like a broken record. She was so engrossed in her thoughts that the outside world seemed to blur into the background. She didn't even realize they had reached her house until the taxi driver's voice broke through her reverie. "We have arrived.”

Snapping back to reality, Adele paid the driver and stepped out of the car, her mind still racing. She walked up to the house, her heart heavy with the weight of the evening's conversation.

Upon entering, she found Lucas pacing back and forth across the living room. It was a familiar scene; walking helped him untangle his thoughts and weave them into stories. Adele knew this routine well—it was part of the rhythm of their life together.

"Hey," Adele greeted, her voice softer than she intended.

Lucas looked up, a hint of a smile on his face. "Hey."

Adele watched him for a moment, noticing the furrow of concentration on his brow.

"How's the story coming along?" she asked, genuinely curious yet apprehensive about broaching the subject.

Lucas paused, his expression turning thoughtful. "It's... coming. Not much else to say right now," he replied, a slight shrug in his shoulders.

Adele nodded, a part of her relieved by his response, but another part of her, the part still echoing with her mother's words, felt a growing urge to speak her mind. She turned to leave the room, but the weight of unspoken words held her back.

She turned back to Lucas, her heart pounding in her chest. "Lucas, can we talk? There's something on my mind."

Lucas stopped pacing, his attention now fully on her. "Of course, what's up?"

Adele sat across from Lucas, her hands gently shaking as she interlaced her fingers. She glanced at him, her heart heavy, echoing with her mother’s words.

“Lucas, I’ve been thinking…It’s been a long time since your last book payment, and it’s becoming really hard for me to cover everything on my own. Maybe you should look for some part-time work,” she said softly, her voice filled with a mixture of hope and apprehension.

Lucas looked up, his expression one of surprise mixed with concern.

“But Adele, you know how important my writing is. If I start working somewhere else, I won’t be able to dedicate myself to my book. It’ll suffer,” he replied earnestly.

Adele took a deep breath, trying to steady her voice. “I do understand, Lucas. But we’re in a tough spot. It’s been over six months. We need to think about our current situation.”

Lucas ran a hand through his hair. “Adele, my writing is my passion. It’s what defines me. Are you asking me to just put that aside for a regular job?”

“No, I’m not saying that,” Adele replied, her voice trembling slightly. “I’m just asking for a bit of balance. We need some sort of stability, especially if we want to start thinking about a child.”

Lucas’s eyes widened slightly. “A child? I hadn’t really thought about that yet. I figured that was something for later, much later.”

Adele’s heart sank. “Later? Lucas, we’ve been married for two years. I thought we’d be on the same page about starting a family soon.”

“Well, I was thinking maybe in 5-7 years,” Lucas replied, almost defensively.

“Five to seven years?” Adele repeated, her voice rising in disbelief and hurt. “That’s a long time, Lucas. I assumed we both wanted kids sooner than that.”

Lucas sighed, looking uncomfortable. “I just can’t focus on children right now. My book needs all my attention. It’s not the right time.”

Adele’s frustration was clear in her voice. “But what about us, Lucas? What about our life together? We need a plan, some direction.”

Lucas looked conflicted, torn between his aspirations and their relationship. “I do care about us, Adele, and my writing... It’s a huge part of our future.”

Adele stood up, her emotions bubbling to the surface, pacing the room. “It’s always about your writing. Where does that leave our relationship?”

Lucas tried to interject, "It's important to me, Adele, but...you ask me for impossible things."

"Stop it, Lucas," Adele cut him off, her voice tinged with exasperation. "Everything is possible when you want it. I've supported us both for so long. I've been patient, understanding. But we can’t keep going like this."

A look of concern on Lucas's face. "I know you’ve done a lot, Adele, and I appreciate it..."

Adele’s voice grew louder, she didn't give Lucas a chance to end.

"So what about my needs? My dreams? Don’t they count for something?"

"Of course they do. But I can’t just abandon my writing," said Lucas, his voice rising in defense.

Adele, feeling a surge of anger, said, "Well, I just wanted to have a calm talk with you, but now I see things clearly. You really don't grasp how serious our situation is. If you can’t see beyond your writing, then maybe you should reconsider your place here. I’m paying for this house, and if you’re not ready to contribute or plan a future with me, then maybe you need to leave and think about what really matters."

Lucas stood there, stunned, as Adele’s words echoed in the room. The air was thick with tension, the unspoken pains and sacrifices of their relationship laid bare. Adele looked at Lucas, her resolve clear but her heart aching, wondering what their future held.

"You're not serious right now, are you?" Lucas asked, his voice filled with disbelief.

"Quite seriously," Adele responded, her voice trembling slightly. "I want you to think about our future, but right now, I'm just too hurt and need to be alone."

Without another word, Lucas’s expression hardened. He gathered his belongings – a few books, his laptop, and a small bag of clothes. The silence between them was heavy, punctuated only by the soft sounds of his things being packed.

Adele watched, her heart sinking with each item Lucas placed in his bag. She wanted to say something, to stop him, but the words were stuck in her throat. With a final look, Lucas walked out of the house, leaving Adele standing in the middle of the room, enveloped in a deafening silence.

As soon as the door closed behind Lucas, tears began to stream down Adele's cheeks. She couldn't believe that their conversation had led to this. The sadness was overwhelming, made even more poignant by the realization that this might not have happened without her mother's meddling.

Feeling a deep sense of regret and exhaustion, Adele decided the best thing to do was to try and get some rest. She trudged to her bedroom, her steps heavy, her mind a whirlwind of thoughts and emotions. She lay in bed, staring at the ceiling, hoping against hope that Lucas would quickly realize his mistake and come back, or at least call to apologize.

But the next morning came with no word from Lucas. In fact, more than a week passed without a single message or call. Adele's heart ached with guilt and longing. She replayed their last conversation over and over in her mind, wondering if she could have handled it differently. She felt guilty for letting her emotions, fueled by her mother's words, push Lucas away.

Every time her phone buzzed with a text message or rang with a call, Adele's heart leaped, hoping it was Lucas. But each time, her hope was dashed as she realized it was someone else. Friends and colleagues were checking in, but all she wanted was to hear from Lucas.

The weekend arrived, bringing with it a profound sense of loneliness for Adele. She found herself sitting alone in her quiet home, the silence around her feeling heavier and more oppressive with each passing moment. Deciding she needed a change of scenery, Adele resolved to go for a walk.

She got dressed, choosing comfortable clothes and shoes, and stepped out of her house. As she began to walk, she had no particular destination in mind. She simply needed to be outside, to feel the fresh air on her face and see the bustle of life around her. Gradually, the sights and sounds of the city began to pull her out of her introspection, offering a small relief from the weight of her thoughts.

Adele found herself wandering towards the riverbank in the heart of the city. The rhythmic sound of the water and the serene beauty of the river provided a momentary escape from her troubles. For a brief period, she forgot about Lucas and the pain of their separation.

However, her moment of peace was shattered when a small boat sailed into view. There, on the small deck, was a table set with food and wine, creating a picturesque scene. But what truly stopped Adele in her tracks was the sight of Lucas sitting at that table, and across from him, to her utter disbelief, was her own mother.

Adele squinted, hoping it was a trick of the light or a figment of her imagination. But as she focused, the reality became undeniable. Her mother and Lucas were there, on a date. They were laughing together, engaged in animated conversation, and even holding hands.

A wave of shock and confusion crashed over Adele. Her mind raced with questions and suspicions. Was this why Mom had been so insistent on them breaking up? The thought that her own mother could betray her in such a way was unfathomable.

Driven by a desperate need for answers, Adele started to follow the boat along the riverbank. Her heart pounded in her chest as she quickened her pace, trying to keep the boat in sight. But despite her efforts, the boat soon drifted too far, disappearing from view.

Standing there, on the edge of the river, Adele felt a sense of helplessness envelop her. The revelation was too much to process. Betrayal by Lucas was one thing, but by her own mother, it was unimaginable. Her thoughts were a tangled mess of anger, sadness, and disbelief.

Driven by a desperate need for answers, Adele made her way to her mother's house. She harbored a hope, a suspicion really, that after their river rendezvous, her mother and Lucas would return there together.

Arriving at the house, Adele found herself in a waiting game. The minutes turned into an hour, and as time passed, she began to feel the chill of the evening air. Her mind was a tumult of terrible thoughts, each more distressing than the last. "What if their date didn't just end with a boat ride?" she wondered.

Just as these thoughts threatened to overwhelm her, the sound of a car approaching broke her out of her anxious reverie.

Adele watched as the car pulled up and her mother got out. Linda's demeanor was light, almost buoyant, as if she was floating on air, clearly elated from the day’s events. Seeing her mother so evidently happy only fueled Adele's growing anger and sense of betrayal.

"Oh, dear, what are you doing here? Why didn't you call?" Linda asked, her surprise evident.

"This isn’t a conversation for the phone. I want the truth," Adele replied, her voice firm.

"What are you talking about?" Linda asked, a hint of confusion in her tone.

"Oh, please, just don't play dumb. You know exactly what I'm talking about. I saw you on the boat today with Lucas. Tell me the truth, right now," Adele demanded, her frustration boiling over.

Linda's expression shifted drastically. Gone was the lightness, replaced now by a look of fear. She clearly hadn’t expected to be seen, especially not by Adele.

Realizing there was no way out, Linda resigned herself to the inevitable confrontation. "Come inside, Adele. I’ll tell you everything," she said, her voice a mix of resignation and apprehension.

As they entered the house, Adele felt a knot in her stomach. The familiar surroundings of her childhood home now seemed alien, the scene of an impending revelation she wasn’t sure she was ready for. They sat in the living room, a room that had witnessed many family discussions, but none as fraught as this one promised to be.

Linda took a deep breath, composing herself. Adele could see the struggle in her eyes, the internal debate about how much to reveal and how to justify her actions.

"After our talk at the restaurant, I felt terrible," Linda began, her voice heavy with regret. "I was at home, thinking about you. But then, my phone rang and it was Lucas."

Adele listened, her arms crossed, a storm of emotions brewing inside her.

"He told me about your fight and that you had kicked him out. To be honest, I was relieved because that's what I had wanted for you. But Lucas was lost, he had no one else to talk to, so he reached out to me for advice. I thought it would be harmless to invite him over to talk."

Adele interjected sharply, "Why didn't you just send him away if you dislike him so much?"

Linda paused, choosing her words carefully. "I thought it would be a short visit. When he arrived, we talked mostly about you. He was upset about the fight and wanted advice on how to make things right. We talked late into the night; he had nowhere to go, so I let him stay."

Adele's brow furrowed, a mix of confusion and anger in her eyes.

"The next morning, I found that Lucas had made breakfast. He said it was a thank you for letting him stay and for my advice. It should have stopped there, but..."

Linda sighed heavily, the shame evident in her voice.

"When he was leaving, he asked if we could meet again. He said our talk had helped him, inspired him. I thought it was all about helping you, that maybe he could change for your sake. So, we set another time to meet,” Linda put her head down.

“When I got there, the whole atmosphere felt strange, almost like a different world. We were supposed to talk about you, but Lucas... he was different. His gestures, his way of speaking, even his jokes, it was as if I was getting to know someone entirely new.”

Adele, standing rigidly with her arms crossed tightly, her expression one of growing anger and disbelief, sharply cut in. “Mom, just stop. Stop lying to me. Are you seriously telling me that my husband was flirting with you?"

Linda met Adele’s intense gaze, her eyes reflecting a turmoil of emotions – regret mixed with an unsettling hint of satisfaction.

“Adele, I wish I could tell you it wasn’t true, but I made a promise to be honest with you. Today was our third time meeting. I couldn’t believe it myself when I arrived. Lucas had gone all out – he had arranged for a boat, set up a table elegantly with food and wine. He told me he didn’t want to talk about you today. He said he wanted to get to know me, that he finds my company enjoyable. It was like a breath of fresh air, a feeling I haven’t experienced since I was young, since before your father left us.”

Adele’s voice trembled with a mixture of shock and anger. “This is just atrocious.”

Linda, seemingly oblivious to Adele's growing outrage, asked, “What do you mean, dear?”

“It’s atrocious and deceitful. I can’t believe you, my own mother. You’re a traitor. I’m going to Lucas right now to tell him everything. To tell him it was you who pushed me into arguing with him.”

"It changes nothing, Adele,” Linda, her voice trembling with a strange mix of defiance and regret, responded. “When true feelings emerge, they're unstoppable. I'm truly sorry for how things turned out, but accepting the truth will make it easier for you."

Adele's eyes blazed with hurt and anger. "I don't want to hear any of this. Every piece of advice, every direction you've given me... it's all led to nothing but pain and heartache. You've betrayed me in the worst way possible, and now, you dare to stand here and blame me for this mess?"

“I’m not blaming you, Adele! This is about real feelings. Can’t you see that? Why do you want to destroy what could be a beautiful thing?” Linda pleaded, her voice rising with a blend of desperation and conviction.

“Destroy? He is my husband, Mom! We have been in love since long before he even knew you existed. Can’t you hear how wrong this sounds? You’re just terrible. I never want to see you again.” Adele’s words were sharp, each one laden with pain and betrayal.

She turned swiftly, her footsteps heavy and resounding through the house. The door slammed behind her with a finality that echoed her shattered heart and trust. As she walked away, her mind replayed the conversation, each word from her mother cutting deeper. The woman she had trusted and looked up to her whole life had become a stranger, her actions unfathomable and deeply wounding.

Adele frantically pulled out her phone and dialed Lucas's number.

"Hello, Lucas? Where are you right now? I need to talk to you, it's urgent," she said, her voice shaking.

"I'm just leaving the library," he replied, his voice sounding distant.

"Wait there for me, please. I'll be there in 10 minutes," Adele said quickly and hung up before he could respond. She flagged down a taxi, her mind racing.

As the taxi wove through the streets, Adele tried to push her mother’s words out of her mind. She was convinced her mother had lied to her, that there was no truth in her claims. The thought of seeing Lucas, of explaining everything, and returning home together filled her with a desperate hope.

The journey felt like the longest of her life, yet it was over in a matter of minutes. Adele paid the taxi driver, barely waiting for the car to stop before she jumped out. Her heart was racing as she spotted Lucas in the distance.

She ran towards him, her eyes fixed on him, her love, her refuge in this storm. As she reached him, she threw her arms around him in a tight embrace.

"Lucas, please forgive me. I was wrong, but it’s all because of my mom..." Adele stammered, her voice trembling, her mind a whirlwind of emotions. She pulled back to look into his eyes, searching for understanding, for forgiveness.

Lucas looked at her, a mix of confusion and concern in his eyes. "Adele, what happened? What's going on?" he asked, his voice filled with worry.

Adele took a deep breath, trying to steady her shaking hands. "It's my mom... she told me things, terrible things about you. She tried to set me up with someone else multiple times, but I was always faithful to you. I told her I love you. But she manipulated me, our last conversation at home... it was all her doing. She tricked me into talking to you, all just to get you out on a date with her," she said, her voice shaking.

"Drag me on a date?" Lucas asked, a frown creasing his forehead.

"Yes. I saw you two on the boat and then confronted her. She couldn't tell the truth and started spouting nonsense. She claimed you flirted with her and arranged a boat for her. She said you have feelings for her, that you want to be with her. I didn't believe her. Any of her words," Adele insisted, her words tumbling out rapidly.

Lucas looked down, his brow furrowed in thought. After a moment, he gently took Adele's hand, looking up into her eyes with a solemn expression. "I'm sorry, Adele. But I think it's best for us to go our separate ways."

Adele felt as if the ground had fallen away beneath her. "What are you talking about?" she asked, her voice barely a whisper, disbelief etched on her face.

"Your mother didn't lie," Lucas said, his voice steady but filled with regret. "She is a remarkable woman, and I've come to realize that I want to be with her. I'm sorry it turned out this way. I didn't plan for this to happen, but it did. I don't want to live a lie, so I'm telling you the truth."

Adele took a step back, releasing his hand. She felt a wave of emotions crashing over her – disbelief, anger, heartbreak. The man she loved, the man she had built her life around, was walking away from her, for her own mother. It was a betrayal too deep, too painful to comprehend.

"I'm sorry, Adele," Lucas repeated, his voice tinged with a deep sadness. "I never meant to hurt you. But I have to be honest with myself, and with you. This is how I feel."

"This is insane. I gave you the best years of my life, Lucas. I supported you in everything. For the past six months, I've been the one paying for everything we have. And this is how you repay me?" Adele cried out, her voice shaking with a mixture of anger and disbelief.

"Adele, please try to understand..." Lucas began, his voice laced with hesitation.

"Understand? Oh, I understand perfectly. You're nothing but a shameless user, living off women. You're a pathetic excuse for a man," Adele spat out, her words dripping with contempt.

"Adele, please stop," Lucas pleaded, a pained expression on his face.

"Stop? I'm just getting started. How could I have been so blind? How stupid was I to fall for someone like you? I should've listened to my mother from the start. Even though she betrayed me, she saw you for what you really are," Adele continued, her voice rising in anger.

Lucas tried to interject, "It wasn't planned, Adele. I'm not trying to live off anyone. I've been working hard."

"Working hard? Sitting at home, walking in circles in the living room. That's your 'hard work'? With no income to show for it. I'm in shock... I'm just in complete shock. I refuse to waste another minute on you. You make me sick. I hope you're happy with her, you both deserve each other," Adele said, her voice cold and hard.

With those final words, Adele turned and walked away, leaving Lucas standing there, a mix of regret and sorrow on his face. As she walked, her steps were quick, fueled by a surge of emotions – anger, heartbreak, and a deep sense of betrayal. Every word she had said echoed in her mind, reinforcing the painful truth of the situation.

When Adele returned home, every room, every object seemed to echo with memories of their time together. She looked around, feeling the weight of their shared past pressing on her. But she was determined not to let sadness consume her. She had experienced enough pain, enough turmoil.

With a determined smile, she spoke to herself, "This is for the best, girl. You're going to get through this and live a life beyond your wildest dreams."

Emboldened by her own words, Adele turned on some upbeat, energetic music, letting its rhythm fill the room and her soul. She began to gather all of Lucas's belongings, throwing them into a pile in the middle of the room. Each item she tossed felt like a release, a shedding of the past, a step towards her new future.

Over the next month, this rejuvenated spirit took hold of Adele. She threw herself into personal development, meeting new and interesting people who brought fresh perspectives into her life. She started exercising, feeling her body grow stronger with each passing day. Her life was transforming, and she felt a sense of freedom she hadn't known before. The pain and betrayal that had once consumed her were fading, replaced by a newfound joy and independence.

But one day, as she was reveling in her new routine, the doorbell rang. Adele walked to the door, not expecting anyone. When she opened it, she was taken aback. There, on her doorstep, stood her mother, tears streaming down her face.

Adele’s heart skipped a beat. The sight of her mother, the woman who had betrayed her in the most unimaginable way, brought back a flood of emotions. Confusion, anger, and a lingering sense of hurt washed over her. Yet seeing her mother in tears, vulnerable and broken, also stirred a complicated feeling of compassion.

"Why are you here, Mom?" Adele asked, her voice a mixture of wariness and a faint, reluctant concern.

"Oh, my dear daughter, I'm so sorry..." she sobbed, attempting to press Adele's hands to her forehead.

"I've wronged you terribly. I am the worst mother in the world," she continued, her voice choked with regret.

"Can you tell me what happened?" Adele asked, her tone cautious but tinged with concern.

Linda, barely able to speak through her tears, pulled out a book from her bag and handed it to Adele. Adele glanced at the cover, her eyes widening as she recognized the author's name – it was Lucas's new book.

"What does this mean?" Adele asked, confusion written all over her face.

"That scoundrel… He used me, Adele. You have to read it," Linda said, her voice breaking, struggling to hold back more tears.

"Oh my god, come inside. You need to calm down. I’ll make you some tea," Adele said, realizing she wouldn’t get any clear answers from her mother in this distraught state.

Linda, still shaken, sat quietly at the kitchen table, cradling a steaming cup of tea between her trembling hands. She took small sips, attempting to find some semblance of calm in the midst of the storm she had brought upon herself. Adele, meanwhile, opened Lucas’s book and began to read, her eyes scanning the pages quickly but attentively.

As she delved deeper into the story, Adele soon reached a section that made her heart skip a beat. Lucas had crafted a character – a woman – who was a mirror image of betrayal and deceit. This character was depicted as a woman who ruthlessly tore apart her own family, manipulating her daughter in pursuit of a scandalous affair with a younger man. In the narrative, she was painted as a character of duality – outwardly stunning, the epitome of grace and beauty, yet inwardly hollow and morally corrupt.

The woman's actions in the book were cold and calculating, driven by a selfish desire for personal gratification. Each page Adele turned revealed more of the character’s manipulative schemes, her disregard for the bonds of family, and her pursuit of an illusory love that came at the cost of her daughter’s happiness.

Adele's heart sank as she put the pieces together. The character in Lucas’s book – it was a thinly veiled description of her own mother.

Linda, now somewhat calmer, looked at Adele with eyes filled with sorrow and shame. "I believed him, Adele. I thought what we had was real. But he was just using me for his book, to create this... this monster in his story."

Adele let out a long, deep sigh, her chest heavy with the weight of understanding. The realization of Lucas's betrayal, his use of her mother for literary fodder, was a bitter pill to swallow. He had exploited their pain, their lives, for the sake of his book. A part of her knew that some might seek revenge in such a situation, but Adele found herself devoid of that desire.

Over the past month, Adele had embarked on a journey of self-discovery and rebuilding. She had found a sense of wholeness, a peace that had been missing in her life for so long. This newfound completeness was precious to her, a fragile yet empowering state that she was not willing to disrupt.

Adele mustered a small, forgiving smile. "You should take some time to think about what's written in this book, Mom. As you said, accepting the truth will make it easier for you."
