According to So's LinkedIn profile, he is the CEO and founder of The So Company, which offers consulting services in content, usability, and software development to government agencies and private organizations.
Formerly a Forbes contributor, he wrote about entrepreneurship, business interests, and war veterans. He worked as a counterterrorism expert and special agent in the U.S. Army and Department of Defense (DoD) for a decade, which included his deployment in Afghanistan.
In his extensive work as a counterintelligence agent, he performed various roles, including being a team leader, trainer, and soldier. He earned multiple awards, including the Army Commendation and Army Good Conduct Medals, as well as a Combat Action Badge.

He worked as McNeil Technologies' Defense Contractor, providing logistics to the U.S. DoD. He also served as a Defense Analyst, advising senior officials about their contingency operations and strategies.
Prior to his work, So spent a year learning Mandarin at Tsinghua University in China. He graduated with a political science degree from the University of Chicago in 2003 and an MBA from the City University of New York.

Shaun So Sends Letters to His Wife Every February
So's wife is actress Anna Chlumsky, who gained fame for the film "My Girl" alongside actors Macaulay Culkin and Jamie Lee Curtis. She is known for starring in the Netflix series "Inventing Anna" opposite co-stars Julia Garner and Arian Moayed.
So first met his future wife at a dance party during a University of Chicago event called Spring Fling. They met again the next day at a concert featuring rapper Eminem and the band The Roots. His wife recalled:
"I was in line at that concert with my friend, and I said, 'There's that guy I danced with last night,' and she's like, 'What's his name?' and I was like 'Shaun.' And she says, 'Hey, Shaun…' and then ducked. The rest is history…"

In 2007, So and Chlumsky became engaged and had a wedding planned in March. Their family expanded with the birth of their two daughters: Penelope Joan, born in 2013, and Clara Elizabeth, born in 2016.
Since tying the knot, So sends letters to his wife every Valentine's Day as part of their beloved family traditions. "I've got like I've racked up a box of love letters," his wife said.

Although So is a private man, he often emerges from the public spotlight. Over the years, he has appeared with his famous wife at various events in New York City.
So graced the American Ballet Theatre Gala in 2022, where he was pictured smiling with his wife. The pair also attended the 15th Annual United States Tennis Association (USTA) Opening Night Gala in 2015.
The longtime couple was also spotted at Refinery29's "29Rooms: Turn It Into Art" event with a friend in 2017. He and Chlumsky attended the Metropolitan Opera Opening Night Gala at Lincoln Center that same year.
