'I Hate It,' Cher Admits about Aging but Believes ‘It’s Never Too Late’ to Be Happy with Younger Partner
- Cher, who turned 77 this year, admits she hates aging.
- However, the singer believes "it's never too late" to fall in love.
- Cher is dating a man decades younger than her.
Grammy Award winner Cher is in her late seventies and cannot fathom being an octogenarian soon. But that has not stopped her from finding love with someone four decades younger than her.
Over the years, Cher has been candid about growing old, and she recently confessed her aversion to aging. Although she has no particular secret to looking youthful, the music star knows she will still rock her current look even when she's 80.

According to the famed award-winning "Goddess of Pop," it is not her intention to look young. Instead, she only feels like a more youthful individual. The California native once revealed on social media that she rarely feels old, though she also admitted in an interview that she would do anything to go back in time again.
Cher Loathes Aging
In May 2023, the "I Got You Babe" hitmaker turned 77 and took to X (formerly known as Twitter), where she penned how she strongly felt about her age:
"Ok, Will Someone PLEASE Tell me…..When Will I Feel OLD? This is ridiculous. I keep hearing these numbers, but I Honestly can't understand them."
Two months later, in September 2023, Cher appeared on "Good Morning Britain," where she was asked about the aging process. She recalled a conversation with a friend where they discussed when they would cut their hair and stop wearing jeans because it seemed that was what older women would do. In her case, Cher admitted this won't be happening anytime soon:
"It hasn't hit yet. I mean, I just can't believe I will be 80 at some point, sooner than I wish. And I will still be wearing my jeans, and I will still be wearing long hair. And I will still be doing the same things that I've always done."
When asked about the secret to looking young, the dark-haired beauty said, "Well, I don't know. Genes in my family are pretty amazing." She added:
"I don't know if not feeling old makes you feel younger."
Cher revealed that she keeps up with the trends and has many young and old friends. The singer also confessed, "Honestly, I'm not trying to feel young. I'm not trying to be young. I am who I am, so whatever that means, so I'm just getting along." Meanwhile, her interviewers believed what contributed to her youthful glow was her penchant for yoga and ice cream.
In her most recent interview with the "Today" show TV journalist, Harry Smith, the actress spoke frankly about how much time has passed, in light of the 25th anniversary of her mega-hit song "Believe."
When asked if she was friends with age, Cher replied "no" but revealed that her mother, Georgia Holt, who died at age 96 in December 2022, did not mind growing old. On the contrary, Cher admitted, "But I do. I hate it." When Smith, 72, admitted to struggling once he turned 70, the powerhouse singer remarked, "I'd give anything to be 70 again." Regardless, this has not stopped her from finding love.
Cher on Her Relationship with Her Young Love
Despite her age, Cher relishes being in love with her boyfriend, music producer Alexander "A.E." Edwards, who is 40 years younger than her. The couple's relationship made headlines after they went public with their romance in 2022.
That did not come as a surprise to Cher, who described Edwards as a "beautiful man" with white hair, tattoos, and diamond teeth. The lovebirds briefly crossed paths in 2022 at a Paris Fashion Week event.

A mutual friend gave Edwards her contact details, and she was shocked by that because her close circle does not give out her contacts so quickly. Moreover, before meeting her beau, Cher had told her friends that they were "too old" to go out with much younger men. She was also not one to fall for someone via text. But that's what happened with Edwards.
The iconic singer admitted she broke her rules for him because he was unique. Irrespective of what happens between them, she adores Edwards, who makes her laugh, and they have good times together.
"What I learned is that it's never too late," said Cher, noting that judging by statistics, it would be natural for someone to predict that their relationship wouldn't last.
The "Moonstruck" star and Edwards have been dating for a year, and even if their romance sees an end, Cher admits the experience would have been worth it since she was having a blast being with her fellow California native.
The "After All" singer further stated that if one finds happiness, one should avoid thinking about how long it would last. Instead, they should think about how the experience makes them feel and be present in the moment.
In addition to being lovers, Cher and Edwards are collaborators as creatives. He produced her new Christmas song, "Drop Top Sleigh Ride," as part of her album "Christmas," released in October.
The "Mamma Mia: Here Were Go Again" star praised her significant other, who is also a rapper, for his work on her single. She admitted that allowing him to produce the song was not easy, mainly because they were romantically involved. However, she believed in his capabilities and was satisfied with the outcome.
As part of the promotions for her Christmas album, the Academy Award winner performed at the "Christmas in Rockefeller Center" event on November 29, 2023, a special hosted by singer and talk show host Kelly Clarkson.
Several other stars appeared at the event, including music composer David Foster, singer Katharine McPhee, and former Nickelodeon star, actress, and singer Keke Palmer. Before the event, Cher, also an Emmy Award winner, admitted that she was nervous about performing at the occasion.
