Wealthy Man’s Son Steals Few Bucks from Beggar, Pays Much Higher Price for That Later – Story of the Day
When a well-dressed man stole his money, Marty followed him to a fancy hotel, demanding it back. No one believed him except a kind receptionist who had no idea about Marty's evil plans.
"Thank you, sir," Marty said, smiling at the man in the dark suit who had approached him. It was a cold, stark morning, and he needed money to buy lunch. Becoming homeless and resorting to begging wasn't Marty's plan, but life had been cruel to him. And not that he deserved better.
Occasionally, kind strangers shared their lunch with him or offered him help, unknowingly becoming the target of his pickpocketing. Today, Marty felt the cold metal of the necklace he'd stolen last night in his palms. He would later sell it, but for now, he was starving and wanted to eat.

The man opened his wallet, and Marty thought he would give him money. Instead, he grabbed the few dollars Marty had collected.
"Hey. What are you doing?" Marty asked, confused, but the man walked away as if he hadn't heard anything.
"Wait!" Marty ran after the man and managed to grab his jacket, only for the stolen necklace to slip into the man's pocket.
"Get away, you bum!" the man snarled, shoving Marty away and hurried away into a fancy hotel.
Marty had to get the necklace back. It was worth thousands and could keep him from begging for a while. He just couldn't afford to lose the jewelry.

But as Marty entered the hotel, a guard named Johnny approached him. "Sir, step outside, please," the man instructed.
"No! That man stole my money!" Marty insisted, pointing to the man. He was near the elevator.
"That man?" Johnny asked, looking at the elevator. "He's wearing a suit that costs more than my yearly salary. No way he stole from you."
"Please, you have to believe me," Marty pleaded. He couldn't tell the guard about the necklace, obviously. He would be questioned about how he had it in the first place. But he needed to get close to the man to sneakily take the necklace out of his jacket pocket.
"I'll call the police if you don't leave," Johnny threatened.

"That's not fair! I'm not the thief here. He is!" he yelled impulsively, drawing more attention.
The mention of cops sent a shiver down his spine, and he acted like a fool. But this guard didn't seem to budge.
Seeing the commotion, Daisy, the receptionist, approached them. "What's going on?" she asked.
"Daisy, don't worry. I got this," Johnny said, grabbing Marty's arm.
"Wait! No! He stole from me!"
"Who stole from you?" Daisy asked.

"That man!" Marty pointed.
"That man?" she asked, turning to see the well-dressed man pressing the elevator button. "Are you sure?"
"I know it's unbelievable, miss. I was sitting on the sidewalk. He took the bills I had in my cup," Marty explained.
"That's… odd," Daisy mumbled.
"Yes, it is. And those few bucks mean a lot to me," Marty nodded.

"Enough, this man is obviously lying," Johnny insisted, pushing Marty.
"I'm not lying! One of the bills had a small tear on the side!" Marty insisted.
"Wait, Johnny," Daisy said, rushing to the elevators. Marty was relieved he still had a chance to get the necklace back.
Daisy tapped the man's shoulder, and he turned with a smile. "Sir, excuse me," she started. "Do you have any change for a five-dollar bill? I need it for the vending machine."
The man smirked, offering a couple of one-dollar bills. "Take them. I don't need them."
Daisy noticed the tear in one bill. "Sir, did you take that money from that man over there?" she asked, pointing to the hotel entrance.
"What? Look at me, sweetheart," the man laughed, twirling to emphasize his point.

Daisy, seething with anger, confronted him about the stolen money.
"I see you perfectly fine," Daisy said, trying to rein in her sarcasm.
"Okay, then. Do I look like I took money from a homeless person?" he laughed.
Daisy accused him, stating Marty's claims about the stolen money were true because the cash matched the bills in his wallet.
"So...what are you going to do? Are you going to take it from me?" the man taunted her.

"Are you a child?" Daisy snapped. "You stole it!"
"Enough!" he snapped. "Who cares about some homeless man? You need to shut up and mind your own business."
"Fine! Let's see you be this brave when I ask security to escort you out," Daisy said, shrugging.
"Really?" he asked, his smugness returning. "I guess we'll have to talk to the hotel owner."
"What? Do you think Mr. Dumas has all the free time in the world?" she countered, showing her own self-satisfied little smile.

"I think he'll have time for me," the shameless man continued, placing his face too close to hers. "He's my father, after all."

In Mr. Dumas's office, Daisy explained the entire situation.
"Sir, a man came to the lobby, telling us that this man here had stolen his money," Daisy began.

Mr. Dumas exploded, berating his son for his actions.
"I didn't do anything wrong. It was just three bucks. Nothing," Alexander shrugged.
"I don't care how much it was," Mr. Dumas said, dismissing his words with a wave.
"But, Dad, he was just a bum!"
"Wait a minute," Mr. Dumas interrupted. "You stole a homeless man? Why should I care about that?"
Daisy's face paled, and she felt Alexander's superiority.

"Sir, to you or even me, the stolen money is nothing. But to that man, it means the world. Or at least, today's meal," she said carefully. But Mr. Dumas wasn't listening. He noticed the homeless man's presence in the lobby on his monitor and berated Daisy, threatening to fire her.
"I'm sorry, sir. But the beggar isn't bothering anyone. He hasn't moved from that spot—"
"I DON'T CARE!" Mr. Dumas yelled, making Daisy jump back in her seat. "Get that dirty loser out of my hotel, and don't come to me ever again about this ridiculousness, or you're fired! I'm running a hotel, not a daycare!"
Daisy exited the office, producing three dollar bills - the total stolen money - from her pockets. She tore one side of the paper and headed toward Marty. Alexander was after her but turned toward the bar.

"Okay, sir. Everything is fixed. Here you go," she said, holding the bills up to Marty. He shook his head, refusing her money, knowing the necklace was more valuable.
Daisy insisted, "Please, just take this or let me buy you something," but Marty declined.
Suddenly, a booming laugh came from the bar. Alexander was there, boasting to the ladies. However, they weren't amused.
"You can pay for our drinks because you stole money from a homeless man!" one woman retorted.
"Yeah, no thanks, loser," the other woman added, turning her back on Alexander.
Daisy sensed immediate trouble in Alexander's eyes. The next moment, he attacked Marty, shaking him harshly.

Daisy pleaded with security to intervene, but they stood by. The confrontation escalated, and Alexander accused Marty of stealing his wallet.
"SEE? I TOLD YOU! That's the real thief! He came here to accuse me! TO SLANDER ME! And then stole my money!" Alexander screamed.
Daisy was shocked when Johnny searched Marty and found the wallet in the poor man's pocket. But she knew Alexander had planted his wallet on Marty.
As Johnny called the police, Daisy rushed to the security office, intending to check the CCTV footage. She wanted to prove Marty was innocent and that the spoiled brat had to be punished. However, Mr. Dumas confronted her.
"Miss Daisy. I believe I told you to get rid of the uninvited guest in the lobby. I can still see him," he said, questioning her authority.

"Yes, sir. He'll leave soon. I just need to check something on the cameras," Daisy stuttered.
"And with what authority? You're just a receptionist here. You shouldn't even be in his room. It's time to return to your job," Mr. Dumas ordered.
"Sir, that footage is crucial," Daisy insisted, shocked. "An innocent man could go to jail!"
Mr. Dumas dismissed her concerns. "Seems like jail would be an improvement for him."
Alexander, realizing his father's presence, entered the security office. Daisy caught a scared glint in his eyes.
"Leave us," Mr. Dumas ordered the security guard behind her, trapping Daisy between the two Dumas men.

"Sir, I need that footage. It'll prove your son did something wrong and protect that man," Daisy added some bite to her voice.
"You either return to the reception, or you're fired," Mr. Dumas warned.
"This isn't fair," she continued. "That man doesn't deserve jail. The only thief here is your son."
"My father already said there's no footage. We'll press charges, and your little bum will still go to jail!" Alexander taunted.
Ignoring the threats, Daisy stepped back, noticing an intercom on the desk. She pressed the button secretly.

"So, you admit it? You planted the wallet in Marty's pocket?" Daisy goaded them.
"Of course I did. I can do whatever I want, whenever I want, and with whomever I want," Alexander confessed.
"You're a respected businessman. How could you ruin a poor man's life?" Daisy turned to Mr. Dumas.
"Because we can," the rich man shot back. "People like that bum don't matter. Now, pack your bags and leave, girl. You're fired for real," Mr. Dumas declared.
"I'll leave, but not before you look at the cameras," Daisy challenged. The lobby and the cops, who'd already arrived on the scene, had been watching whatever was happening.

Alexander and Mr. Dumas were arrested in the end, and Marty was released. Feeling terrible for him, a woman who had taunted Marty offered him a job.
Marty had already seen the cameras in the lobby. When Daisy rushed to the CCTV room, he was confident he wouldn't be caught taking the necklace from Alexander's pocket because the camera wasn't in his direction. Now, he had a job and the necklace.
Luck had been on Marty's side that day.
