Mom of 2 Loses Her Life during Family Argument over Christmas Gifts
In what was meant to be the most festive time of the year, a Florida family mourned the loss of a 23-year-old mom of two. She was trying to appease her younger siblings, who were fighting over Christmas gifts.
Two teen brothers, aged 14 and 15, argued over their Christmas presents. During the altercation, the 14-year-old pulled out a gun, threatening his older brother over their gifts.
The boy was not happy that his older brother had more gifts from their mother. They'd been arguing since leaving their home, and it continued until they arrived at their grandma's house.
Once they were at home, the 14-year-old allegedly pulled out a gun and pointed it at his brother. He threatened to shoot him then.
An uncle intervened, and he took the 14-year-old boy outside. At the time, the boy's sister, 23-year-old Abrielle Baldwin, was also out with her 11-month-old baby.
When Abrielle told her brother to "chill out," the 14-year-old didn't take it lightly. Rather than following her advice, he shot her point blank.
The young mom's child was not hurt at the time as they were in a carrier. After seeing his 23-year-old sister on the ground, their 15-year-old brother pulled out another gun and shot his brother in the belly.
Relatives at the scene rushed Abrielle to the hospital. Unfortunately, she did not make it through and died.
Abrielle's family and friends are mourning the loss deeply. They gathered to honor her life with a candlelight vigil, casting a solemn glow on pictures of Abrielle with her kids, Jamari, 6, and Amir, 11 months.
Her family is still in shock, yet they've slowly started to openly talk about who Abrielle was to them. "She was just special," said her sister Arianna Burch.
She added that Abrielle was a "really sweet person," yet she often believed nobody cared about her. She now has to cope with losing not just one but three siblings, as her brothers were arrested following the incident.
After the 15-year-old brother pulled the trigger, he fled the scene and discarded the weapon in a yard. He stayed at a relative's house, where he was eventually arrested.
Abrielle's 14-year-old brother was charged with first-degree murder. He is currently recovering at the hospital after undergoing surgery.
Meanwhile, Abrielle's 15-year-old brother is currently checked into a mental health facility. He also faced charges of attempted first-degree murder.
The entire family and their community are united in grief. Neighbors and friends have offered support and assistance during such an unimaginably difficult time.
In a similarly tragic story, a healthy 4th-grade boy died after being shot in his living room. He was waiting for his brother to check his homework when the unthinkable happened.
