Cher is an iconic singer, but her personal life has not been as glamorous as her career. The pop diva has been through broken relationships and marriages and has two children, Chaz Bono and Elijah Blue Allman, from different relationships.

While Cher has a close bond with her son Bono, her relationship with her younger son Allman has been strained and rocky for years. Allman, who is also a musician, has struggled with mental health and substance abuse issues and has felt neglected and rejected by his famous mother.

Allman was born on July 10, 1976, to Cher and her second husband, Gregg Allman, the founder of the Allman Brothers Band. Allman grew up in a turbulent environment, surrounded by drugs and alcohol. His parents divorced when he was young, and he rarely saw his father, who was battling addiction and legal issues.

His mother was busy with her career and her love life and often left him in the care of nannies or relatives. In 2014, Allman opened up during an interview with ET, revealing the details of his relationship with Cher. When he was just seven years old, his mother sent him away to a boarding school, and it affected him greatly.

He shared, "When you go to boarding school at 7 years old, it's kind of hard to feel like you're not being shunned." But at the time of the interview, Allman was ready to let go of the pain and resentment that had been building up over the years. He confessed that the feeling of being abandoned at such a young age was a difficult thing to come to terms with.

But he had realized that holding onto that bitterness only held him back. Allman went on to share about his struggles with substance abuse, which began during his school years. He would often visit his parents in New York on weekends, and that's when he got mixed with the wrong crowd.

At only 11, Allman would go to Harlem with his friends to buy drugs. He told ET, "It seemed normal at the time." Allman started playing music at an early age, following in his parents' footsteps. He formed a band, Deadsy, with his school friends, which blended elements of metal, rock, and synth-pop.

Allman revealed that after he started the band, he and Cher didn't talk for a few years. As the band toured with famous acts, Allman made friends with famous actors and musicians. During that time, he experimented with drugs, such as heroin, painkillers, and alcohol, and became addicted to them.

Since then, he has struggled with addiction and has been to rehab many times. At one point, Allman battled Lyme disease, suffering from chronic fatigue, depression, and anxiety for years. He believes he contracted the disease in 2005 after swimming in a river. In 2007, he started feeling ill and visited several doctors, but none of them could figure out what was wrong.

He said that Cher dismissed his illness as something imaginary and did not support him as she should have. Feeling frustrated and hopeless, Allman decided to seek treatment in Germany, which involved taking antibiotics, supplements, and herbal remedies.

He had to change his diet, lifestyle, and mindset and had to cope with loneliness as he felt he lacked parental love during that time. The alternative medicine did not work, but eventually, he found a doctor who helped him recover. It was in Germany that he met Mariangela King on a blind date, and the pair traveled around Europe together before traveling back to California.

In December 2013, he eloped with King without inviting or informing Cher. Months later, Allman revealed that his mother did not reach out to congratulate them after their engagement, which led to his decision to elope. He said, "I wasn't going to wait for anyone's approval and congratulations, just like I've never waited for any of that my whole life."

Allman also revealed that following their wedding, Cher did not invite them to her house for Christmas celebrations, and that had hurt him. However, despite their differences, Cher still cares for Allman. In December 2023, she took a drastic step to protect him from his own self-destruction.

She filed for a conservatorship of Allman, who is 47, claiming that he is unable to manage his financial resources due to his severe conditions. Allman has the right to receive periodic payments from the trust left to him by his late father. However, due to his continuous struggle with mental health and substance abuse, there is a concern that he might misuse these funds for drugs.

This could potentially leave him without any financial resources for his personal needs and could endanger his life. Cher, being aware of this situation, is understandably worried. Cher's move to file for a conservatorship of Allman has been met with positive reactions from social media users.

Some people have praised Cher for being a caring and concerned mother who is doing the best thing for her son. They lauded Cher for being wise and brave to take such a bold action and that she was showing her love and compassion for her son. One fan's comment reads, "She is a mom and she is doing what is best for her son! Good for her!"

About four months ago, Cher was accused of kidnapping Allman from a hotel room where he was staying. According to the report which was made by Allman's now-estranged wife, King, Cher had hired four men to remove Allman from their hotel room to keep them from reconciling their marriage.

Cher, however, dismissed these allegations as untrue in a conversation with People, choosing not to comment further. She did confirm that the family matter in question was related to her son's struggles with addiction.
