Winfrey said that she had tried almost everything to deal with her weight, from the banana-hot-dog-egg diet to the pickles-and-peanut-butter diet.
That was until she learned about Optifast, a liquid diet, in 1988. Winfrey weighed 212 pounds then, and she started the diet that same year in July. She spent four months not eating solid food, and by fall, she weighed 145 pounds.
The world-famous talk show host had shed 67 pounds in her weight-loss journey. She showed it off by pulling a wagon full of fat onto the stage on her syndicated show.

However, she later picked up 10 pounds.. Winfrey declared in 1991 that she would never diet again. By 2002, the public figure said she had made peace with her body.
Fast forward to July 2015, a weight-loss company called Weight Watchers called Winfrey to do a talk show circuit, and People Covers for one year to promote it. At the time, she had gained 17 pounds.

The company had reached out to her before, but she had declined. However, this time, she took them up on their offer, and in her first commercial for the brand, Winfrey said:
"Inside, every overweight woman is a woman she knows she can be."
The author explained she had buried herself in her weight to a point where she barely recognized herself. This statement created a controversy online as people questioned whether Winfrey meant that women were worthless if they were not thin. They asked if she was "disempowering women."
When she received a call from Weight Watchers, she admitted being "desperate" to make it work. She wanted a remedy that would be consistent since she had gone through many diets that did not stick.
In terms of self-acceptance, Winfrey admitted she struggled to accept herself while weighing over 200 pounds, which was not good for her heart. It caused high blood pressure for her and made her wary of her health, seeing that some of her family members have diabetes.
Winfrey revealed in 2019 that she was diagnosed with pre-diabetics before joining Weight Watchers. She had alarming blood sugar and blood pressure numbers, but by then, they had stabilized.
By then, the philanthropist had lost 42 pounds in the four years she had joined the program. Weight Watchers has done a lot more for Winfrey. She revealed:
"Beyond the weight, WW has helped me make healthier choices and understand the real numbers that matter most."
Winfrey is now 70 years old and looks better than ever, thanks to regular exercise and weight-loss medication. It helps her maintain a healthy weight long-term, and she now rocks a slim figure. Although the producer did not specifically mention the drug she used, she maintains that it was a holistic approach to achieving her desired physical appearance.
