The turning point came one morning in late March. As usual, Rebecca arrived at the farmhouse to take Indy to school, but that day, something extraordinary happened.

After their customary morning prayer, they stepped out but soon after, they both returned to the kitchen. Rebecca then told Rory that Indiana had something to tell them. With all the innocence and wisdom of a child, she asked, "Ms. Rebecca, I think you should marry Papa."

Rory was caught off guard but deeply moved. Indiana explained her reasoning, saying, "My Mama's been gone a long time. And if she marries you, maybe she could be my new mother." Joey's funeral service was a deeply emotional event, held in a grove of sassafras trees behind their farmhouse. Friends and family gathered to say goodbye to the woman Rory described as "the greatest person I have ever known."

The service began in their barn, which also served as a concert hall.
