Fans Worry for Tom Selleck, 79, after Seeing His 'Blue' Hand on a Rare Outing: 'What Is That on His Right Hand?'
Tom Selleck, who was never one to relish the spotlight of Hollywood, has the public worried about his appearance. This is not the first time the actor has concerned netizens.
Stepping out in casual attire, Hollywood star Tom Selleck, 79, was seen in Thousand Oaks, California on Tuesday, September 3. Eagle-eyed observers were quick to note how remarkably different the "Blue Bloods" actor appeared, with many wondering what had happened to his hand.

For his excursion, Selleck donned a navy button-down shirt, which covered his dark-colored, baggy T-shirt. He wore black shorts, socks, and sneakers to complete his ensemble, and carried a light brown folder in his hand.
Veering away from his typical clean-shaven look, which features a well-maintained large mustache and finely styled hair, Selleck sported a bushy, rustic gray beard and scruffled hair. According to The Sun, he strolled across a parking lot after he was spotted eating a burger from McDonald's.
Social media users who have seen online photos of Selleck expressed their worry regarding how he looked and pointed out the discoloration on one of his hands.
"What is that on his right hand?" asked a Facebooker. Echoing the sentiment, another pondered, "OMG why is his hand blue? What's happened????"
"His hand looks so weird," penned someone else. An X user who compared Selleck to that of the late Queen Elizabeth II asserted, "Tom's left hand, telltale discoloration from IV, just like late Queen. What's up? @CBSNews @CNN @Variety."

"Looks like AI hands…" stated a Facebooker of Selleck's recent appearance. However, other people think there is no cause for concern, noting how Selleck just looks older as he ages.
"He doesn't look different. He's just older and he's gained weight," observed a netizen on Facebook.

Similarly, another echoed, "[He] [doesn't] look that different, just a little heavier…" In contrast to many of the comments, a fan praised, "He looks amazing! Way better than most [79-year-old] men."

While the "Three Men and a Baby" talent may look very different from how fans are used to seeing him, the public can rest assured that he is happy with his life.

In an interview he did with People magazine in April (2024), about his life and career, it was revealed that Selleck never even relished being in the spotlight in the first place, despite forging a successful career in Tinseltown for over five decades.

Additionally, the actor, who starred in the very popular '80s series "Magnum, P.I.," never indulged his status as a heartthrob either. According to People, the 6'4" Emmy Award winner is more than happy to lead a serene life with his family.

For the patriarch, his beloved wife, Jillie Mack, their daughter, Hannah, and his son, Kevin, whom he shares with his ex-wife, Jacqueline Ray, are at the top of his priorities.
A month after his People interview, Selleck sat down with CBS News's Tracy Smith at his California ranch in May, where he addressed reports that CBS's "Blue Bloods" is coming to an end.
After Selleck gave a cheeky response about how the show's network should come to its senses and not end the series because of its success, Smith asked the actor if he would have a problem with not working anymore.
"That's always an issue. If I stopped working, yeah. Am I set for life? Yeah, but maybe not on a 63-acre ranch!" replied Selleck.
While the ranch-owning star's recent appearance during his rare outing may have come as a shock to many, this was not the first time Tom Selleck has been seen looking this way.
Back in October 2023, he was spotted in Los Angeles with the same scruffy beard, prompting reactions of surprise from netizens, who said he looked like a different person.
The 79-year-old Michigan native was photographed making a pitstop at a McDonald's drive-thru in his pickup truck near his San Fernando Valley home. Some people could not believe it was him because of his new look.
"I would never have recognized him," admitted one spectator. However, a fan came to Selleck's defense, writing, "Well, we all don't stay young forever."
Still, others refused to believe that it was, in fact, Selleck in the pictures, with one person penning, "That is not Tom Selleck." Someone else commented, "Gosh, he hasn't aged well. Looks unrecognizable." "He looks completely different! Still handsome, but like an entirely different person," noted another.
One individual suggested that Selleck looks unidentifiable due to consuming too much alcohol and high-calorie meals. "You sure that's actually him?" asked another person.
On the other hand, some netizens seemed more concerned about the "Quigley Down Under" star's health, as one person commented, "[Losing] some pounds would be beneficial for his health."
Echoing the same sentiments, someone wrote that while the "Friends" alum "is still VERY handsome" for his age, "he needs to lose at least 60 – 80 pounds."
Agreeing with this comment, a reader highlighted, "He's a very decent man, and would be much better looking if he knocked off 40 lbs." "Oh, Tom, please ditch fast food. It'll kill you. Literally. Eat healthy food at home. Please!" pleaded another fan.
"Looks out of shape," pointed out someone else. "Looks like he needs to cut back on the McDonald’s," said an observer while another stated, "Looking a little portly." Although some had negative things to say about Selleck's physical appearance, others spoke highly of him.

One fan swooned, "He has aged well," and another advised the beloved Hollywood star to enjoy his life. "Still looks good to me. Glad he has let himself age naturally," commended an admirer while another fan gushed, "Tom Selleck is our American Treasure."
