Now, the 63-year-old " Dumb and Dumber" actor, Jim Carrey, has embraced a life guided by personal fulfillment rather than box office success.

In the interview, the comedian revealed that his decision came from a growing disillusionment with an industry he once helped redefine. The Hollywood Reporter also reported that later that same year, at New York Fashion Week, the comedian called the event deliberately frivolous. The moment served as a glimpse into his growing disinterest in the superficial aspects of celebrity life.

This shift coincided with deep personal turmoil. In 2015, his ex-girlfriend and makeup artist, Cathriona White, died by suicide — a tragedy that led to legal and emotional challenges for the actor.

Still, Carrey found solace through painting and a quieter existence. Speaking with "Access Hollywood," he explained, "I'm taking a break. I really like my quiet life, and I really love putting paint on canvas, and I really love my spiritual life […] This is something you might never hear another celebrity say as long as time exists, uh, I have enough, I've done enough, I am enough."

The break extended beyond his career — it was also geographic. According to a source who spoke with the Daily Mail, Carrey sold his longtime Brentwood estate after nearly 30 years and moved to a waterfront home in Maui, Hawaii, where he now spends much of his time.

While the funnyman remains primarily distant from Hollywood, he has not completely stepped away from film. The Daily Mail also reported that he is slated to reprise his role in the "Sonic the Hedgehog" franchise in 2027 for the fourth installment. In the meantime, he focuses on his life in Maui, Hawaii, where he enjoys the quiet, paints, and selectively develops new projects.
