Who Tried to Help Andy at the Scene
Several of Andy's friends rushed toward him after noticing he was suffering from a medical emergency.
The video shows Andy slumped over and unresponsive on a set of cement stairs outside a building in broad daylight, with his glasses lying on the ground in front of him.
One friend, who happened to be live-streaming, can be heard approaching and yelling, "Is he okay? Andy, are you okay, buddy? […] Andy, Andy, Andy buddy, wake up," while others called 911 for help. Eyewitnesses said the group appeared frantic as they tried to revive the comedian.

Help From Bystanders Before Paramedics Arrived
As the chaotic scene unfolded, a bystander shouted for someone to retrieve Narcan, a medication known for counteracting the effects of opioid overdoses.
As seen in the video, someone at the scene administered the nasal spray while waiting for emergency responders. The Los Angeles Police Department responded to the scene after receiving the same overdose call.

Eyewitness Recall the Incident
A security guard who witnessed the incident, Shawn Harrell, told the New York Post that Andy's face and hands "turned blue" as he collapsed outside Highland Liquor.
"I thought he'd passed away," Shawn said. "They started spraying Narcan and tapping him on the chest. They were trying to keep him awake because he was non-responsive. They used more than one Narcan."

"The paramedics came. People were crowding around him so I didn't want to be part of the commotion. I stood back and watched them do what they did," the security guard further disclosed.
Shawn, who works at the strip mall where the incident occurred, said the ordeal lasted around 10 minutes. Andy, 59, eventually regained consciousness and was not taken to the hospital.
"He wasn't saying anything. But when it was all said and done, he was back to normal. It was like nothing happened," Shawn recalled. "He stood up and looked around, was walking around."
Andy Speaks out On the Incident
One day after the episode, Andy spoke openly about the ordeal in an interview with TMZ and in a follow-up video. At first, he insisted he was "100 percent fine," then corrected himself, "110 percent."Andy explained that he had encountered a man his age on the sidewalk and sat with him.
According to Andy, the man "whipped out … crack," and from there things spiraled. Andy said he "might need a little bit of that." He went on to deliver a striking admission:
"I don't mind doing a little crack every now and then."

In the extended interview shared on YouTube, Andy added more context:
"There was a guy that was my age on there, and I felt for him […] He had kids, and he was depressed, and he was on the sidewalk, and I'm like, 'I'll sit with you.' And then he whipped out, I'm sorry, but crack. And I'm like, 'you know what? I might need a little bit of that.' I wanted to see what he was doing."

The interviewer then asked, "So you didn't know this guy. You just met him yesterday."
Andy replied, "Oh, yes, he was on the street, and so was I. I ran away from these [expletive] who were my real friends. That was stupid of me. And then I just met this guy who was my age. I'm like, and he had kids, and he was going through [expletive]. He is smoking something on a tin foil. I'm like, 'I know what that is. Like 'I said, just give me some.'"

One of Andy's friends, the same one who livestreamed the incident, said, "He did something that messed him up, but it was a group effort of all of our friends that, you know, saved him."

Another friend described holding Andy's hand while urging him to think of his grandchildren, "When he went out, I grabbed his hand and I said […] 'Think of your grandbabies.' He has two grandbabies. And he grabbed my hand, and he held it like he squeezed it."

The livestreaming friend also addressed criticism for recording the moment, "The only reason why I livestreamed that happening to Andy is cuz I wanted a record of what was going on because that doesn't usually happen."
Andy backed him up, saying, "I get mad at him if he's not recording."
Andy has offered no further explanation beyond his video comments. The disturbing video, however, underscored just how close the comedian may have come to a more tragic outcome, one that left friends, bystanders, and even seasoned security personnel fearing the worst as they worked to keep him alive.
