'Full House' star John Stamos welcomes his first child. And baby's name has so much significance
After years of playing fathers and even a grandfather on television, John Stamos has finally become a father in real life, and he is determined to be the best one.
The 54-year-old actor John Stamos and his wife Caitlin McHugh, 32, have welcomed their first child in early April, two months after their wedding. The new parents have chosen to honor Stamos’ father naming their newborn Billy after him.
As Shared has reported, Stamos’ father, William ‘Bill’ John Stamos passed away in 1989, and the Full House has always felt the responsibility of continuing his late father’s legacy.
Even though it took him by surprise that he was going to become a father, he joyfully welcomed the news and celebrated the opportunity life was giving him to try to be as good a father as his own was.
Stamos and McHugh had agreed to become parents in the near future, but they were surprised to learn that she was expecting a child sooner than they pictured it.
“The [pregnancy] happened. Then I said, I better have a ring on her finger because it’s the right thing to do, and I wanted to marry her anyway. So I called her parents to ask, and it was like, ‘You better!’’’ Stamos said.
Stamos took to Instagram to announce that baby Billy had arrived, without specifying the exact date of his birth.
‘From now on, the best part of me will always be my wife and my son. Welcome Billy Stamos (named after my father),’ Stamos captioned the photo of his first child sleeping resting on his chest.
Stamos previously told People magazine that his only regret was not having become a father earlier in his life so his parents could have got to know his children.
‘It kills me that my parents aren’t here to be part of this, but I know it probably wouldn’t be happening if they weren’t up there,’ he said.
