It’s been barely two weeks since EJ Johnson’s good friend Lyric Henry was discovered dead in a New York sidewalk. And while EJ is mourning her loss, his recent Instagram posts have prompted fans to slam him for how he chooses to grieve.

Lyric was discovered to be 20 weeks pregnant after authorities found her lifeless without her pants on a sidewalk in New York City with a bag of cocaine next to her. The 26-year-old was EJ’s costar in his reality show “EJNYC” and just recently celebrated her birthday. EJ’s last Instagram post with her was a week before her death. It was a group photo with Lyric at the center. He used the snap to greet his “best friend” on her birthday and gush about her importance in his life.

“Happy birthday to my best friend who has strutted with my in princess gowns since day 1 @lyric_leigh words cannot express how much I love and appreciate you in my life. Your constant love, respect and companionship gives me the confidence to live my truth every single day and I am so blessed that even as baby divas we recognized the greatness in each other. I love you.”

Little did EJ know it would be the last time he’d be celebrating Lyric’s birthday with her.

Two weeks after her death and EJ appears to be grieving silently. Fans wonder why he hasn’t shared a single mourning post on his Instagram. Instead, he’s been sharing his usual selfies flaunting his outfits which many think is strange considering how close he was to Lyric.

But EJ has his reasons and he made that known recently when he responded to fans who questioned his methods of grieving. In the comments section of one of his recent posts, he wrote,

“I’m going to make this clear to everyone there will be no mourning post because I’m not going to reduce a 25yr friendship to 1 Instagram post. Please respect my privacy and my process.”

EJ seems to be constantly asking for respect from fans who would often condemn him for his choices. From his clothes to his makeup and how he chooses to live, fans always have something to say. And while most of the time he let those vile comments slide, it seems this time, he’s setting them straight. Especially because the pain of his friend’s death digs deeper than he’s led others to believe.

Lyric’s death remains a mystery despite the evidence gathered at the scene of her death. There were no visible injuries on her body except for bruises on her knees. Police are still determining whether she died of an overdose due to the cocaine found on her or if she was dumped on the sidewalk having only been wearing a pajama top when she was discovered.

Hours before her death, she was still partying at the Frederick Hotel, the SoHo Grand, and Dream Downtown as evidenced by photos she shared. Her last post was a clip of her blowing a kiss to the camera at around 1 am. She had her arm around a man who says “it’s your birthday.”
