Mariah Carey steals the show with powerful performance of her hit song at recent festival
Legendary soul singer Mariah Carey, who is preparing for the release of her latest album, put on an electrifying performance of her hit song, “We Belong Together” at the 2018 iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas over the weekend.
Carey looked breathtaking in a glittering ensemble consisting of a mini dress and a long black jacket, but it was her voice that had fans cheering. The soul diva took the audience down memory lane as she belted out lyrics to the favorite song, supported by live backup singers.
Carey also performed other hits like “Always Be My Baby,” “Emotions,” “Honey,” “Beautiful,” and the more recent “GTFO,” which was intended as a teaser for her upcoming album.
“GTFO” an acronym for “Get the [expletive] Out,” is rumored to be about Carey’s ex-fiancé, James Packer. Being the first single since her split with the Australian Billionaire, and containing lyrics about a "knight in shining armor" who "took her life for granted" and "bulldozed" her heart, fans already put two and two together.
The pair announced their engagement in January 2016 and by October of the same year, they had broken up. Mariah filed a lawsuit at the time, citing an "inconvenience fee," and Packer paid her a multi-million dollar settlement as a result.
Shortly after the split from Packer in 2016, Carey, 48, paired up with her much younger boyfriend, Bryan Tanaka, 35. Carey and Tanaka first met in 2006 when the “Touch My Body” singer hired him as a backup dancer on her “Adventures of Mimi” Tour.
Tanaka said of their initial meeting:
“She saw something in me that I actually didn’t recognize at first, from that it was over. It was set in history that we were gonna be connected some way, somehow.”
Save for a brief split in April 2017, the couple has been going strong from every other indication. On Sunday, Carey and Tanaka were spotted holding hands in West Hollywood before heading to Beyoncé and Jay-Z's show at the Rose Bowl.
Carey dressed to impress in a black leather ensemble. She paired figure-hugging pants with an equally form-fitting camisole worn under a cropped biker jacket. The mother-of-two donned high-heeled platforms that may be difficult to pull off for just anybody.
Tanaka, on the other hand, looked more laid-back in a burgundy T-shirt and washout jeans, paired with white sneakers.
Carey was previously married to rapper Nick Cannon, and the two are parents to twins Monroe and Moroccan.
