US Weekly: Duchess Meghan 'did not' tell father about pregnancy before official statement

Kensington Palace refused to comment and sources share contradicting information about when and how Meghan Markle’s father found out about her pregnancy.

While Doria Ragland, Meghan’s mum is elated about her daughter’s pregnancy and looking forward to welcoming her first grandchild it remains unclear whether her dad, Thomas Markle got told by the royal couple.

WHAT EVENTS LEAD UP TO SITUATION?

It is believed that Meghan has not spoken to Thomas since her wedding in May 2018 after he confessed to selling pictures to paparazzi. He pulled out of walking Meghan down the aisle at the last minute after reportedly falling ill leaving Meghan in tears after hearing he will not be attending her wedding.

In previous interviews Thomas had complained about his daughter ‘cutting him off’ since the wedding and told the Mail on Sunday:

“What’s sad is that sometime in the next year Meghan and Harry will have a baby and I’ll be a grandfather, and if we’re not speaking I won’t see my grandchild.”

WAS DAD THOMAS TOLD?

A source told the US Weekly:

“Meghan did not tell Thomas Markle about the pregnancy. He found out the same time as the rest of the world.”

Meanwhile, a royal source told The Sun:

“He heard the news before it was made public and was overjoyed. He thinks Meghan will make a great mum as she is already so maternal.”

Whether they have told the former 74-year-old Hollywood lighting director about Meghan’s pregnancy remains unclear, but he surely knows now. He has previously expressed his feelings towards the royal family comparing them to a ‘cult.’

Before Meghan dated Harry, Thomas lived a quiet life in Mexico and filed for bankruptcy in 2016 after failing to pay his debts. They expect Meghan and Harry’s firstborn in Spring 2019 and Meghan’s 74-year-old father is yet to meet his son-in-law Harry face to face.

MEGHAN’S RELATIONSHIP WITH MUM DORIA

Thankfully Meghan has a good relationship with mum Doria who visited Meghan and Harry during the months leading up to their wedding and was also by her side when Meghan attended her first royal hosting event in September and now supporting her through her first pregnancy.

Mum Doria was told right after Meghan found out about her pregnancy and cleverly concealed her growing baby bump by wearing loose-fitting coats and/or carrying items in front of her stomach during various appearances since mid-August.

Her last appearance at Princess Eugenie's wedding sparked renewed speculation when she wore a beautiful outfit by Givenchy concealing her body shape when she dressed in an uncustomary overly conservative fashion.

Doria, a social worker, and yoga instructor currently resides in Los Angeles and was the only member of Meghan’s family to attend the royal wedding in May. She has been welcomed by the royal family and was seen escorted down the steps of St. George’s Chapel by Prince Charles following the ceremony.
