Idris Elba named 2018's ‘Sexiest Man Alive,’ and here are the winners from previous years

As the publication did the year before and many years before that “People” magazine recently announced the “Sexiest Man Alive” for 2018. The coveted spot went to Idris Elba!

The British heartthrob is one of Hollywood’s biggest stars. Besides being an actor, he’s also a well-accomplished DJ.

Idris Elba, 46, is “People” magazine’s cover story for this week on top of being their “Sexiest Man Alive” winner. When he first heard the news about his new title, he thought it wasn’t real.

He revealed how he reacted saying:

“I was like, ‘Come on, no way. Really?'”

“[I] Looked in the mirror, I checked myself out. I was like, ‘Yeah, you are kind of sexy today.’ But to be honest, it was just a nice feeling. It was a nice surprise — an ego boost for sure.”

The actor is the magazine’s 33rd “Sexiest Man Alive.” Some Hollywood stars who held the title before were Mel Gibson, then-29, in 1985 and last year was Blake Shelton.

In his days at an all-boys school in London, Elba was an athlete who played first-string football, basketball, cricket, hockey, and rugby. However, before that, the star went through an awkward phase.

He shared:

“I was very tall and skinny. And my name was Idrissa Akuna Elba, okay? I got picked on a little bit. But as soon as I could grow a mustache, I was the coolest kid on the block. Grew a mustache, had some muscles, bonkers.”

Besides acting, Elba enjoys deejaying in Ibiza and kickboxing in Thailand. He’s an all-rounder who also designs his own clothing line.

Fans who were hoping a miracle would happen and they would get to nab the heartthrob; can just forget it because he has a fiancée Sabrina Dhowre, 29. Elba proposed to the model in February.

He has a daughter, Isan, 16, and a son, Winston, 4, who are both from previous relationships. The star is currently shooting the “Fast & Furious" spin-off "Hobbs & Shaw.”

One of his fellow stars, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, was also a “Sexiest Man Alive” winner at one point. Richard Gere also won the title before.
