Beyoncé transforms into the spitting image of Toni Braxton with short hairdo
Beyoncé knows just how to get her fans buzzing, and when she paid tribute to a legendary artist, Toni Braxton for Halloween, the superstar did just that. Meanwhile, Toni is not the only person Beyoncé has paid tribute to in recent times.
The “Lemonade” singer took to Instagram a day before Halloween to unveil her costume. This year, Beyoncé chose to be Toni Braxton, one of the world’s R&B legends who rocked the 90s and brought us unforgettable hits like “Unbreak My Heart” and “Another Sad Love Song.”
Beyoncé nailed the recreation of Toni’s pose on her debut album cover. Like Toni, she rocked a black leather jacket, white tank top, and the trademark pixie cut.
QUEEN BEY IS A FAN
The mom-of-three shared the result of her costume alongside the original cover featuring Toni herself. Instead of “Toni Braxton,” Beyoncé poked fun at her version by naming it “Phoni Braxton.” She got the font and design of the original artwork spot-on though.
Her caption included a glowing message to the 51-year-old Toni:
“Sending love and adoration to one of our talented legends. Thank you for the countless bops. Your tone, your beauty, your range, and your God-given talent is treasured. Loving you always. Have a Happy Halloween my Kings and Queens.”
Beyoncé also shared two more posts with different remakes of Toni’s poses on her July 1993 album.
SOCIAL MEDIA REACTS
As with everything the “Flawless” singer puts out, the pictures wasted no time going viral, and social media users posted various reactions. Many praised Beyoncé for paying homage to a music legend for Halloween, even though she’s also a global superstar.
Queen Bey had previously dressed as Janet Jackson, Salt N Pepa, and Lil Kim, proving she’s not too narrow-minded to give honor to whom it’s due.
THE FUNNY SIDE
Some netizens found the funny angle, pointing out that Toni and her Braxton sisters would probably scream in excitement after seeing Beyoncé’s post.
Others also found it hilarious that Beyoncé’s fans born in the current millennium may have to resort to Google to find out who Toni Braxton is.
TONI REACTS
An overwhelmed Toni expressed her appreciation for the honor on Twitter. She shared all of Beyoncé’s remake photos and sent a message to her fellow celebrity, letting her know it was a good attempt:
“Phoni Braxton!? NEVER!!! How do you look better than me on MY album cover? I LOVE IT, Such a superstar! Thanks for the love sis! Happy Halloween. Who run the world...GIRLS! GIRLS!”
HALLOWEEN AT THE CARTERS
Beyoncé and her Carter brood have a reputation for bringing on their best game for Halloween. In 2012, she dressed up as Spider-Man and the White Rabbit, and in 2013, opted for an Angel costume.
For Halloween 2014, Beyoncé channeled the iconic Mexican artist Frida Kahlo in a creative costume while her husband, rapper Jay-Z, went as Jean-Michel Basquiat, another prominent artist.
Later that year, Beyoncé also posed as Janet Jackson while her daughter, Blue Ivy, was dressed as Michael Jackson.
MORE TRIBUTES
Beyoncé, who also shares twins Rumi and Sir with her husband, has been paying a lot of tributes lately. Following the end of her and Jay-Z’s world tour on October 4, she shared a video mash-up of various clips taken throughout the event.
Intimate backstage kisses, PDA moments between Bey and Jay, and shenanigans with their back-up dancers and crew, all made it to the video.
But when it came to the caption, Beyoncé, 37, made sure to spotlight her husband of ten years.
"To Shawn Carter, my Clyde, my best friend: this journey on OTR2 has been a highlight of my life. Thank you for every moment. I’ll be your hype man any day! To the Hive and all the fans who supported OTR2, cheers to you and I. Salud!"
The “Destiny’s Child” alum also gave a shout-out to her crew and family, including her father, Mathew Knowles and all her “loved ones.”
"We couldn’t have done this without each of you beautiful human beings," she finished.
