Another blood pressure medicine recalled for possible cancer risk
The FDA is expanding its recall list of Blood Pressure medicines again as they find another product containing a questionable ingredient.
The blood pressure medication recall started when the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) tested the pills. They tested positive for a potential cancer-causing ingredient.
The ingredient is called Valsartan. It is produced by a Chinese company called Zheijand Huahei Pharmaceutical company.
Valsartan from the company tested positive for the by-products NDMA and NDEA. These by-products have been linked to increasing the risks of cancer in animals. It is widely believed to have the same effect on humans.

As a result of the FDA findings, drugs produced by Zheijang has also been recalled in over twenty countries. The FDA has also banned all drugs manufactured by Zhejiang from entering the country until further notice.
Now, a new drug has been added to the list of blood pressure medication that is being recalled already. The drug in question is Losartan potassium-hydrochlorothiazide 100 milligram/25 milligram tablets sold by the company Sandoz.
The FDA recommends that patients check their pill bottles to find out if they have the recalled pills. They advise patients to check the lot number on the bottle. If you take Lorsatan that has the lot number JB8912 it is part of the recall. However, they predict the recall will only impact 1% of Lorsatan products in the USA.
It is recommended for all patients taking blood pressure tablets to check their bottles and the list of recalled items to ensure whether or not they have a safe batch of pills. The FDA advises that patients who have a recalled item continue taking the pills until they see a doctor and receive a safe alternative or replacement.
It is also recommended that patients follow certain important steps at home to help maintain control of their blood pressure besides by taking medication. Patients are advised to try to lose weight, exercise and reduce their salt intake.
People with blood pressure issues should also reduce their alcohol drinking, quit smoking, reduce their caffeine intake and reduce their stress levels. They should also monitor their blood pressure at home.
It is also important to have a strong support system as supportive family and friends can help improve your health.
