BEFUDDLING PUPS WITH SLEIGH OF HAND
In the video, he is wearing a red Santa hat with a fluffy tassel rather than a magician's top hat, but his performance is magical and hilarious.
Stessel shows the dogs a treat, which he then causes to "vanish" by sleight of hand - and the pup's reactions are priceless.

ADORABLE REACTIONS FROM THE SHELTER'S DOGS
The dogs have different reactions - each according to their personality. Some run off once they realize the treat is gone, others wag hopeful tails, another launches an attack on Stessel’s Santa hat. But they all look surprised - and cute as can be.
"I’ve always loved the idea of doing magic with dogs. Performing for them was nothing short of incredible."

WAVING A MAGIC WAND TO GET SHELTER DOGS A HOME
The video is a joint effort between Stessel and the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter director Rob Bliss.
The magic show and the subsequent video are meant to show people the adorable and lively animals stuck in the shelter, eager to love and be loved by a good family.
So if you are anywhere in the New York area, show these pups the magic of Christmas is real, and give them a home.

WHY NOT ADOPT A SHELTER DOG?
American shelters receive over 3 million dogs every year. Organizations frequently appeal to the public to adopt these abandoned animals and give them a chance at a better life, but there are advantages for the adoptive owners too.
Firstly, shelter dogs are free, and come with all their shots - and are often already spayed. The large number of dogs in shelters mean the prospective owner can pick and choose the breed they want - and many shelter dogs are already housebroken.
Having a dog has been shown to have a considerable positive effect on people's and general health, vitality, emotional well-being, and mental health. A healthy dose of unconditional doggy-love is the best medicine.
