Singer Montell Jordan & Wife Once Opened up about His past Infidelities & How They Overcame Them

Montell Jordan, better known for his ‘90s hit song “This Is How We Do It,” has been married for almost 25 years to his wife, Kristin. Through their marriage, they managed to overcome the hardships of the music industry and the temptations of infidelities.

Montell Jordan was once marketed as a single and available R&B crooner that drove fans wild with his sex-appeal and smooth voice. But the truth is, he was married even before he started his career as a musician.

He Met Kristin Hudson at a party in college, where he tried to impress her by doing the “running man.” Although it wasn’t love at first sight for Kristin, they started dating and eventually tied the knot in 1994. They’re the proud parents of four children: Sydney, Skyler, Chris, and Stacey.

A year later, Montell released his first single, “This is How We Do It,” under the Def Jam record label. The company’s executives advised Montell and Kristin, who was his manager, to keep their marriage under wraps.

They told the couple that no one would like a male singer that was married and that people in the music industry would respect Kristin’s work even more if she weren’t “someone’s wife.” And so, they followed through with the secret.

When asked about his love life, Montell would always reply “I’m married to my music.” But at some point, the lies started to take a toll on the pair.

With Montell touring around the country, and Kristin focusing on contracts and taking care of the kids at home, infidelity issues started to arise.

“I wasn’t concerned with the marriage at that time, because it wasn't my focus,” Kristin confessed. And Montell added, “We opened ourselves up to chaos.”

“It’s kind of a set up for our marriage when you have both of these worlds colliding. The infidelity piece, when I learned about it, what I realized is, we had to make some changes,” Kristin said.

Montell decided to leave the music industry in 2010. The next year, he became a pastor at Victory World Church, in Atlanta, Georgia.

“We choose marriage over music. We choose faith over fame. Simply from the standpoint of, we wanted something that mattered,” Montell explained.

The couple released their first book, “This Is How We Do It: Making Your Marriage a Masterpiece,” in 2017.

In it, they give couples the pointers to a successful marriage using faith and trust as the starting point.

Montell and Kristin are still going strong, and now they get to do marriage ministry together at their church, setting an example for their community.
