Teyana Taylor Grieves the Loss of Her Great-Grandma in New Post
Teyana Taylor is grieving the death of her great grandmother as she shares a tear-jerking social media tribute while also revealing how she plans to deal with the loss.
Mother’s Day was this past weekend, so it must have been pretty awful to wake up mere days later to news that you’ve lost one of the mother-figures in your life. Taylor said as much on Tuesday with a heartbreaking Instagram post.
OVERWHELMED BY GRIEF
Alongside a photo of the singer hugging a much-older woman in a Christmas sweater, she wrote:
“The last thing I wanted to wake up to. [Broken heart emoji] Rip to my great grandma Nan. My heart can’t take it smh I am extremely overwhelmed with all that is happening.”
Judging by Taylor’s picture, she was extremely close to her great-grandma, and one can only imagine the pain she must be going through.
CONDOLENCES POUR IN
Friends and well-wishers trooped to the comments section with condolences and words of comfort for the “KTSE” hitmaker.
“I’m so sorry T,” fellow singer SZA wrote. “May God cover you and your family [with] deep healing comfort during this time.”
“Oh, sweetheart. Anyone can tell she was adored,” Jill Scott added. “I’m sorry for your loss. Nan’s are so important.”
Naturi Naughton from “Power” also had some kind words:
“Prayers to you and your family! Sending you all so much love. May she Rest In Peace.”
WORKING THROUGH THE PAIN
On Wednesday, Taylor was billed to perform in her hometown of NYC and decided to use it as an avenue to deal with her loss.
“Today is already a very bittersweet day for me,” the "Gonna Love Me" singer shared alongside the concert poster. “As I am very excited for tonight’s concert, I am also hoping the lord gives me the strength to pull thru & show out for my great nan as I know she’ll be watching from above & will keep my covered [sic]”
“I appreciate all the love, support & prayers. I [love] you guys and will see you all tonight!” she finished.
FAMILY MATTERS
Taylor, 28, has always prioritized family, so it’s no surprise that the death of her great grandmother has her so heartbroken.
Despite her busy schedule, the music artist always makes time for her NBA player husband, Iman Shumpert, and their three-year-old daughter Junie.
Last October, Taylor had hearts swooning on the internet with her heartwarming 2nd-anniversary message to the Houston Rockets Shooting Guard, and on more than one occasion, she’s brought little Junie along on tour.
Our deepest condolences go to Taylor and her family during this difficult time.
