Proud Parents La La & Carmelo Anthony Pose with Son Kiyan After Basketball Game Win
La La and Carmelo Anthony are glowing with pride in new pics shared to Instagram, after witnessing a new victory of their son Kiyan and his basketball team. The 12-year-old is following his dad’s steps, and Anthony is making sure to pass down all of his signature moves to the talented boy.
Kiyan Anthony and his team, the Black Ops Cadets, took home the trophy for the Elite Invitational tournament last weekend playing against the NY Gauchos, and both La La and Carmelo Anthony were present to cheer on the boys.
The “Power” actress took to Instagram to share a series of pics featuring Kiyan and his teammates, his father, and her, of course.
“I’ve been at the gym since 9 am, but it was worth it to watch @blackopscadets win the @eliteinvitational against @nycgauchos...NYC STAND UP‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️WE DID IT‼️‼️CHAMPS‼️#undefeated,” La La captioned the post.
GETTING PRAISES FROM FANS
Fans and friends alike took to the comment section to congratulate Kiyan on the victory and gush about how much he has grown at the same time.
“Empire” actress Taraji P. Henson wrote:
“Time flies. He is a young man. So handsome. CONGRATS YOUNG KING.”
While the Black Ops Cadets’ account commented: “Let’s go best team Mom always got our back! NYC wassup?!!!!”
And a fan pointed out: “Great job!! Congrats to your son and his team! You and Melo are excellent parents!!”
LEARNING FROM THE BEST
Just a few months ago, La La shared a video gushing about his son’s abilities on the basketball court while he learned one of his father’s signature moves from Carmelo in the flesh.
The move, known as “the jab,” consists on fooling the defender by making them think the offensive player is going one way when he’s headed the other direction.
The jab requires a last-second step towards the opposite route, which demands quickness and agility, skills that Kiyan demonstrated while throwing hoop after hoops as he practiced with Anthony.
“What a blessing...when your dad is your greatest teacher. Kiyan is getting that jab step down..learning from the best to ever do it #stayme7o,” La La captioned the clip.
GETTING BACK TOGETHER
Now that La La and Carmelo decided to give their marriage a second chance after their 2017 split, the couple seems to be going stronger than ever as they work not only to fix their relationship, but also to assure their son is living his dream while preparing for the future.
Talking to Hollywood Life in February, La La explained how she managed to overcome the situation: “Pray a lot. Believe in God. Talk to people that I know have my best interest at heart. Talk to my husband — Communicate.”
And added:
“It’s also important to hold each other accountable for things that we could both be doing in the marriage, making the marriage a priority. When you live in this world, and it’s work, and it’s children, it’s this, it’s that, it’s easy to forget about the marriage, and you have to remember to put the marriage at the forefront. I think that people just kind of always assume that it’ll be there and they forget that that’s work in itself.”
After 14 years with Carmelo, La La said she realized that there are always going to be bumps and bruises on the road. However, those circumstances can help make their unit stronger, and they grow up as people.
“I think that’s been the case for us…we’re still working through some things, but I’m happy to be in a much better place right now,” she concluded.
