Jared Lorenzen Dead at 38

Former NFL quarterback Jared Lorenzen passed away after battling heart and kidney issues. He was 38.

Lorenzen was admitted to hospital over the weekend after contracting an infection that affected his kidneys. His family said in a statement:

"It is with heavy hearts that the family of Jared Lorenzen, would like to extend our sincere thanks and appreciation for all of your support and prayers over the past 6 days."

They thanked Lorenzen's fans for the support and asked that their privacy please be respected while they mourn his death. His family concluded:

"We will offer arrangement information in the coming days. Please keep Jared's family and especially his children in your thoughts and prayers."

Lorenzen was signed to the New York Giants in 2004 and appeared in four regular season games throughout his career.

The Giants also mourned his death, saying on social media that Lorenzen was a "special and a beloved Giant." They added:

"He was an important member of our 2007 team, one that created it own destiny. Our thoughts are with Jared's family and friends who loved and appreciated him so much."

In other NFL news, former New York Giants quarterback Anthony Wright underwent emergency surgery after being shot by his girlfriend's ex.

Authorities confirmed that Wright is in a stable condition and that his assailant is wanted for assault with a deadly weapon. Read more here.
