Billy Ray Cyrus' Wife Tish on Their Son Braison’s Near-Death Experience
Billy Ray and Tish Cyrus' second son, Braison Cyrus, is a handsome folk singer and model. However, he once had a near-death experience after a tonsil-removal surgery went wrong, and his mother talked about the harrowing experience in detail.
Billy Ray Cyrus and his wife Tish are often recognized as the parents of the famous pop star Miley Cyrus, but the couple had two more kids, Braison Chance and Noah Lindsey, and also share three more kids from their previous relationships: Trace Cyrus, Brandi Cyrus, and Christopher Cody Cyrus.

Like the rest of his famous family, Braison, who is now 25-year-old, is also part of the entertainment industry. He’s been modeling and acting since he was 18 and recently launched a music career in the folk genre.
And although he couldn’t be happier where he is now, back in 2012, Braison lived through what must be one of the most distressing experiences of his life.
A SIMPLE SURGERY GONE WRONG
According to what Tish Cyrus told E! News at the time, she and Billy Ray took Braison to an LA Surgery Center for a tonsil-removal surgery, which according to the Mayo Clinic, could be required if there’s an infection or to treat breathing problems.
Cyrus explained that the surgery was a success, and Braison was sent home on the same day with instructions to eat ice cream, soup, and rest in general. He did well for six days, and then when a week had passed, he had some bleeding.
A nurse explained to Tish on the phone that it was normal after the procedure, but warned her that a steady stream blood wouldn’t be normal.
Two days later, Braison woke up because he felt something running down his throat, and soon realized he had intense bleeding. Tish drove to the hospital, and since they lived only three miles away, they arrived pretty quickly.
“I got in there, and you could see the nurses and doctors in the emergency room were alarmed. They started doing everything they could to get the bleeding stopped,” Tish recalled. And continued:
“It was so traumatizing. You think a tonsillectomy is no big deal! But it was full-blown hemorrhaging. They took him back into the operating room and stitched up the bleeding artery."
Cyrus decided to share the experience to warn other parents about not taking lightly any kind of surgery.

“There is no way he could have kept losing that amount of blood and survived,” she stated, adding that she felt lucky about living near the hospital because if they were in Nashville, the 25 minutes it would have taken them to get there “could have been the difference between life and death."
MOVING ON
Although Tish admitted that psychologically Braison was a bit shaken by the experience, after eight years, it seems like the handsome young man has moved on.
He popped the question to his girlfriend Stella McBride in November 2018, after less than a year of dating, and announced the big news with an Instagram post where he wrote:
“She said yes. My life has changed in so many amazing ways this year, but the most amazing has been meeting and falling in love with you. I love you with all my heart, and I cannot wait to marry you.”
The couple tied the knot a year later in a beautiful and intimate Tennesse ceremony attended by family and close friends.
Miley, making use of her big sister title, sent her best wishes to the new couple with a now-deleted Instagram post where she revealed Braison and Stella got married on the top of the same hills the siblings used to play as children.
AN NOT-SO-EXEMPLARY MARRIAGE
Although Braison’s parents have been married for over 25 years, their relationship has been filled with ups and downs, and sometimes, they had to deal with it under the spotlight.
In 2010 Billy Ray filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences and asked in court paper to have "equitable distribution of the marital estate.” However, a year later, Cyrus revealed he had dropped the divorce.
Three years later, it was Tish who filed for divorce, but after some months of couple’s therapy, she decided to drop the divorce and keep working on her marriage.
“I think a lot of people, when you go through struggles and difficult times, that people throw in the towel a little too easy," Tish Cyrus told Bravo. "And I think that any relationship—whether it's marriage or family, it doesn't matter—it's you truly do have to take care of it and nurture and really work hard at relationships.”
She also mentioned that while any marriage is difficult, being in the entertainment industry makes it even harder and requires, even more communication and dedication.
“We've publicly gone through stuff and made it work. And I'm so glad that we did, because our family is so strong and so amazing. I'm blessed,” she concluded.
