Aretha Franklin's Granddaughter Victorie Embraces Afro Hair in Snaps & Announces Music Release

Aretha Franklin’s granddaughter, Victorie Franklin, is ready to shake the world with her afro and music, which she posted about in some recent social media updates.

Over the last few years, Aretha Franklin’s granddaughter, Victorie Franklin, has shown the world that she has her iconic grandmother’s voice.

The 20-year-old reminded her followers of her singing prowess when she shared an Instagram post that seemed to indicate that she has some new music on the way.

Victorie reportedly launched her music career back in 2014 when she took to the stage to sing Tamela Mann’s “Take Me to the King” during the BET Honors.

While an old Aaliyah clip is seen playing on the front end of the post, it is Victorie’s voice that can be heard singing some lyrics in the background.

Just before she shared that post, the singer-writer showed off her afro and outfit in two images that she uploaded to Instagram. Victorie also took to her Instagram Story to drop more angles to her hair-do.

While the first Story was a clip she made as she stood in front of a mirror, the next Story was a video of her singing along to a song. The third Story was a boomerang that she made while sitting down on a black surface.

Besides being a vocalist like her grandmother, Heavy reported that Victorie played varsity basketball for the Bloomfield Hills High School.

The seven-time “Player of the Game” awardee played the game from the time she was a sophomore until her senior year. Additionally, during her three-year varsity career, she played 62 games and averaged 10 points per game.

Aretha died four years after that event, and to mourn her loss, The Detroit News reported that Victorie shared a sweet clip of her grandmother.

The black-and-white clip, which was posted on Twitter, showed Aretha enjoying herself as she played the piano some months before her death.

Billboard subsequently noted that Victorie used her caption to state how sad she was about the death of her grandmother, whom she loved a lot.

To commemorate the first anniversary of her passing, Fox 2 spoke to Victorie, her father, Kecalf Cunningham, and sister, Grace.

During the conversation, they made it clear that Aretha was dedicated to doing her best for members of her family and others when Grace said:

“It's inspiring to see all the love and everything that everybody took from everything my grandma did.”

The Queen of Soul’s family has continued to hold on to the memories they have of and made with their mother and grandmother while she was still alive.
