Former Entertainment Tonight host John Tesh opened up about his battle with cancer and shared how "incredibly supportive" his wife and children stood by him through the harrowing ordeal.

Back in 2015, John Tesh got diagnosed with a rare form of pancreatic cancer, and even though doctors gave him 18 months to live, he came out the other end cancer-free.

UNWAVERING FAMILY SUPPORT

Recalling the difficult time, Tesh said during a recent interview that his wife, Connie Sellecca, and their children supported him every step of the way. The couple shares a daughter Prima and a son Gib from Connie's previous marriage, and according to Tesh, they "were great," as he explained:

"There were times that I didn’t want to be around my kids because I didn’t want them to see me so sick, but they were incredibly supportive.”

Tesh, who married Sellecca back in April 1992, felt a fair amount of guilt since his entire family just dropped everything when he got diagnosed. Several rounds of chemotherapy followed, and he then went into remission and is still cancer-free to this day.

CANCER CHANGED HIS OUTLOOK ON LIFE

Even so, the 67-year-old said that his cancer journey gave more depth to his understanding of suffering, as he added:

"Once you understand that suffering is a part of the gig, then you’re able to put it in its place and get on the other side of it.”

Tesh is convinced that the change in perspective wouldn't have happened had he not gone through three years of cancer treatment. But above all, he is grateful for the unconditional love and support he receives from his family.

LIFE NOW AMID THE PANDEMIC

Now with people self-isolating amid the novel coronavirus pandemic, Tesh feels a renewed sense of gratuity being able to spend so much quality time with his wife Connie at home.

Gushing about Connie's cooking abilities, Tesh doesn't miss the days they went eating out a few times a week, as he called himself a "huge beneficiary" in the situation since she is such an "amazing Italian cook."

HOW HE STAYS HEALTHY

Vigilant about his health, Tesh said that a daily regimen of exercise and good food keeps him "healed," and since the rest of the family is on the ketogenic diet, Connie makes sure Tesh's body gets the nutrients it needs.

After winning his battle with cancer, Tesh decided to pen his experience with the disease in great detail in a book he published called "Relentless: Unleashing a Life of Purpose, Grit, and Faith." However, the book is about much more than his cancer battle, and it details his life growing up and his long career in the entertainment industry.

A WONDEROUS REUNION

Earlier this year, John Tesh had an endearing encounter when he reunited with this former co-host Mary Hart on the set of "Entertainment Tonight."

The pair spent a decade hosting the show together from 1986 until 1996, and as they came together for one more night, Tesh and Hart recalled some of their most memorable moments working together.
