The post, which shows some excerpts from a press release note, explains that CW has decided to cast Leslie, featuring a totally new role that is going to change the plot story that the previous season had. The actress also reminded young girls that dreams may come true. She captioned:

“For all of the little black girls dreaming to be a superhero one day... it’s possible!”

BLACK BATWOMAN

Though it has just been announced, the actress, who used to be a cast member of the CBS series, "God Friended Me,” will be portraying the new Batwoman from January 2021. She will also take the lead with a different character that CW will create especially for her.

Leslie is making history, not only for being the first African American to portray this female superhero but also for openly being a bisexual woman. In a statement, Leslie mentioned how proud she feels to represent the Black and LGBTQ+ communities while playing this role.

According to the producers of the series, the new character the actress will portray is named Ryan Wilder and is described as a woman living in her van who is likable and messy, with a bad-habits past, lesbian, highly skilled and undisciplined.

UNEXPECTED CHANGE

The good news came after former “Batwoman” lead, Ruby Rose suddenly resigned at the end of season one. Though the reasons for her abandonment are uncertain, the actress apparently went through some issues with the team due to the long hours required to shoot.

However, when news broke on Leslie being cast as the new superhero, Rose immediately took to social media to post an enthusiastic message to congratulate her fellow colleague.

She wrote on her Instagram: “I want to congratulate Javicia Leslie on taking over the bat cape. You are walking into an amazing cast and crew. I can’t wait to watch season 2 you are going to be amazing.”
