Ed Sheeran's Antarctic Cruise May Have Inspired His Newborn Baby Girl's Middle Name
Speculations are rife that Singer Ed Sheeran might have gotten the inspiration for his daughter's unique name from a cruise trip he took to Antarctica nine months ago.
On Tuesday, singer Ed Sheeran surprised his fans with great news as he revealed he and wife Cherry Seaborn welcomed a baby girl. The proud father took to Instagram to share the thrilling news and announce his daughter's name— Lyra Antarctica Seaborn Sheeran.
Since his announcement, several theories have risen to speculate how he and Seaborn came up with the name. The most convincing of the speculations, however, is that the "Perfect" crooner got the inspiration for his daughter's name from a trip he took to Antarctica nine months ago.

According to reports by Cruise Critic, Seaborn and Sheeran embarked on a cruise in December on a Ponant expedition ship named Le Lyrial. As noted by eyewitnesses aboard the ship, the English singer mingled freely with everyone and even participated in karaoke sessions.
There are also reports that the name Antarctica stemmed from the first trilogy in the series, "Northern Lights," whose theme is set in the Arctic.
The publication reached out to the luxury tour company, Abercombie & Kent, that put the tour together for comments, but the company's spokesperson mentioned their excitement about Sheran's baby and her name and also said:
However, A&K respects the privacy of our guests, and therefore, we are unable to confirm that he was on an A&K cruise."
Although the 29-year-old has made no comments about his daughter's names, another poplar theory to make waves is that baby Lyra's name is a nod to his favorite novel.
According to the Independent, the girl's moniker is the heroine's name in the fantasy-novel trilogy, "His Dark Materials," written by Sir Philip Pullman.
The singer once described the book as "the greatest love story ever told," when he chose to read the book during an appearance on "Desert Island Discs" in 2017.

Fans may recall that Sheeran shared the news of his daughter's birth on September 1, letting fans know that he and Seaborn welcomed her in late August.
Sharing a lovely photo of what looked like a cot with a knitted blanket and a cute pair of socks, Sheeran explained that he and Seaborn "were completely in love" with their baby girl. He also gave fans an update on how they were faring, when he wrote that his wife and their baby were doing well.
He ended the post asking the fans and media for privacy as they navigate life with their newborn before saying goodbye. The singer had been a break from social media since December 2019, and this was his first post of the year.
