Solange and her ex-husband, Daniel Smith Jr., welcomed their son on October 18, 2004. The singer once revealed that the year her son was born was the toughest year of her life.

And just like her mother always had her back, Solange is there for her son and always supports him.

THE TOUGHEST YEAR OF SOLANGE'S LIFE

In 2004, the "Losing You" singer went through the pain of losing her childhood friend, Marsai Song, who was killed in a drive-by shooting. Solange was merely 17 years old at the time.

The birth of her son and the death of her friend put Solange on an emotional rollercoaster. She struggled to come into terms with Song's tragic death and being a first-time mother to her child.

In a letter to her teenage self that she shared with Teen Vogue, Solange shared how going through such hard times makes one grow up too fast and how it is scary to realize that one never knows what the future holds. She further wrote:

"Some people will count you out because of the decision you’ve made to bring another life into the world so young, but you made the decision out of love and will live with the decision in love."

SOLANGE LOOKED UP TO HER MOM

Her mother Tina had been her support system as she grew up. She looked up to her and admired how she handled being a mother and running a business that she built from the ground up.

To her daughter, Tina was someone who made the impossible look effortless, breaking down the stereotypes of Black women. And just like her mother always had her back, Solange is there for her son and always supports him.
