Mädchen Amick Recently Turned 50 — Here's What the Stunning 'Twin Peaks' Star Does Today
Actress Mädchen Amick, best known as Shelly Johnson in “Twin Peaks” and Alice Cooper in “Riverdale,” is 50 years old and still very much involved in the entertainment industry.
Born in December 1970, Mädchen Amick has been involved in the entertainment industry since the late 80s when she landed minor roles in “Days of Our Lives” and “Star Trek: The Next Generation.”
Her career skyrocketed in 1989 when she was cast as Shelly Johnson in “Twin Peaks.” Talking to Kelly Ripa and Ryan Seacrest on their show, Amick said she was about 17 years old when she shot the pilot for “Twin Peaks.”

MÄDCHEN AMICK AFTER “TWIN PEAKS”
After her successful run in the show, she portrayed Carrie Fairchild in “Central Park West,” another famous TV series from the mid-90s.
During Amick’s same interview with Ripa and Seacrest, she revealed that Carrie Fairchild was actually spun off into “Sex and the City.” Amick was offered a role in the new show, but she turned it down.
[Amick] had been wishing to be more than an actress – a storyteller – since her mid-20s.
The actress confessed that she decided against the TV series because she wanted to be present for her children, who were quite young at the time. Amick even revealed that shooting “Central Park West” was challenging for the same reason.
When Mädchen Amick’s time in “Central Park West” ended, she landed parts in “Gilmore Girls,” “ER,” “Witches of East End,” and most recently, she has been portraying Alice Cooper in “Riverdale.”
MÄDCHEN AMICK RETURNING TO “TWIN PEAKS”
Back in 2014, Amick made headlines after it was announced that a third season of “Twin Peaks” would be released. Even better, David Lynch (the show’s original director) was in charge, and most of the original cast returned.
The third season of the show, also known as “The Return,” picked things up 25 years after the previous season's events.
Talking to CBS, Amick revealed that once she learned about rumors of a possible season three of the show, she emailed Lynch, trying to confirm the news.
Lynch, who directed the 18-part limited events series, assured her that they’d see each other in the “beautiful world of ‘Twin Peaks.’”
[Amick’s son] had been dealing with some mental-health struggles.
In a different interview, the actress confessed that Lynch was like a “young teenage boy” excited about his work who wanted to make sure the cast felt the same way and liked what he wrote. About Lynch, Amick said:
“You just have to trust him, and I learned that on the original. He was one of the first directors I had ever worked with, so he trained me. He was my mentor.”
MÄDCHEN AMICK DIRECTING IN “RIVERDALE”
Speaking of directing, Mädchen Amick has also worked as a director in a few projects, including her daughter’s music videos. However, she made her directorial debut in the TV series “Riverdale"s season four finale.
Talking to Entertainment Weekly, Amick revealed that she always wished to be more than an actress – a storyteller – since her mid-20s, but her busy career made it hard.
When she joined the show's cast, she told creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and producers Sarah Schechter and Greg Berlanti that she wanted to direct an episode, and she got her chance in the fourth season with “Killing Mr. Honey.”
Initially, that episode was not supposed to be the season's ending. However, the coronavirus pandemic took its toll on many TV shows and films, including “Riverdale,” so it ended up being the season finale.
At the moment, Amick is still very much involved in the entertainment industry and, after her successful directorial debut in “Riverdale,” most of her fans are willing to see more of her work behind the cameras.
As per her love life, she has been married to David Alexis since 1992. The couple shares two children, daughter Mina and son Sylvester.
In February 2019, the actress made headlines after revealing that she supported Mina when she got physical during a fight on the playground in kindergarten, adding that she and her husband wanted to raise a daughter who could defend herself.
Mädchen Amick also revealed that the fact that Mina and Sylvester supported each other made her proud, especially because Mina has been “present and supportive” of Sylvester, who had been dealing with some mental-health struggles.
