The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have distanced from the British royal family considerably in the last 12 months, but they are reportedly looking forward for the family to heal their wounds in the current year.

It’s been a year already since 39-year-old Meghan Markle and her husband of two years, 36-year-old Prince Harry, shocked the world when they announced their stepping down as senior members of the British royal family.

Now, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and their 1-year-old son Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor live in California, away from the British gossip press, and they reportedly hope to heal their family wounds with their royal relatives.

As a source close to the husband and wife told People magazine in January 2021, Markle and Harry would be “hoping 2021 can be a time of healing not just for the world, but for their family.”

The much-publicized “feuds” among the senior members of the royal family (especially the “Fabulous Four,” as Markle, Harry, Prince William, and Kate Middleton are known) go back to 2016, when Harry and Markle got together.

William, Harry’s older brother, famously expressed his reservations about Harry and Markle’s romance going too fast, something that Harry and Markle obviously resented, which started to fracture their relationships.

In addition to Harry and Markle’s decision to step down and their controversial move to the US, the COVID-19 pandemic has forced the Sussexes to stay out of the UK for the last year.

But Harry and Markle are expected to return to the UK at least on time to celebrate Harry’s grandfather Prince Philip’s 100th birthday in June, and that occasion will be a great opportunity for the Sussexes to make amends with the rest of the family.

The feud between princes Harry and William has been so important to the British people that it prompted the publication of a book on the subject titled “Battle of Brothers: The Inside Story of a Family in Tumult,” written by Robert Lacey.

FAMOUS ROYAL FAMILY FEUDS

Harry and William’s fraternal feud soon extended to their wives, and tensions between in-laws Markle and Middleton were rumored to exist from at least 2018, allegedly over an incident when planning Markle and Harry’s wedding.

While the media probably exaggerates these rumors that have never been confirmed, it has come to be widely accepted that the two couples don’t get along very well.

But the Cambridges are not only feuding with the Sussexes, but also with Camilla Parker-Bowles, Prince Charles’ second wife, apparently because of Parker-Bowles’ jealousy of William and Middleton stealing all the attention from the public.

Last but not least, Markle’s family feuds are not limited to the royal family, with the former actress also being involved in unpleasant public fights with her estranged father Thomas Markle and her half-sister Samantha Markle after starting to date Harry.
