Robyn Moore Gibson Was Mel Gibson's Only Wife and Mom of His 7 Kids — Get to Know Her
For almost three decades, Mel and Robyn Moore Gibson were in what was considered one of the strongest marriages in Hollywood. They’re now divorced but share seven children.
Mel Gibson and his wife, Robyn, met in Adelaide in 1977 when they became housemates. At the time, he was an up-and-coming stage actor, and she was a dental nurse.
In 1980, when they were both 24 years old, they tied the knot in a small and private ceremony. The former couple started having children right away as Hannah, their eldest, was born later that year.
MEL GIBSON’S CHILDREN
Twins Christian and Edward joined the family in 1982, and William was born in 1985. According to Sun-Sentinel, Mel used to take his wife and four kids with him everywhere he traveled.
Whenever they settled into a new location, he would “hunker down” with them. While Robyn likes keeping things private, she was described as “the anchor” of Mel’s life.
Mel and Robyn didn’t stop at four kids, though. Their fifth, Louis, was born in 1988, Milo joined the brood in 1990, and their youngest, Thomas, was born in 1999.
The actor has two more children; Lucia, born in 2009 during Mel’s relationship with Russian musician Oksana Grigorieva; and Lars, born in 2017 with his current partner, former equestrian vaulter and writer Rosalind Ross.
SAVING HIS LIFE
Coming back to Robyn Moore and Mel Gibson’s relationship, she was genuinely crucial in the actor’s life, especially during the 80s when his drinking habit became a problem that almost ended his career.
According to Standard, Mel started drinking after he couldn’t properly handle the loss of privacy and pressure that came with his fame and successful career. It even led to a DUI arrest in 1984.
Robyn, the daughter of late character actor Stephen Moore (“The Queen’s Nose,” “Black Hearts in Battersea”), eventually threatened that if he didn’t stop drinking, she would leave him. In 1991, he joined Alcoholics Anonymous and got significantly better.

MEL AND ROBYN’S DIVORCE
Everything comes to an end. In Mel and Robyn Moore Gibson’s case, it happened in August 2006, shortly after the actor was arrested for driving under the influence and saying some anti-Semitic comments to the police at the scene.
Robyn filed for divorce in April 2009, citing irreconcilable differences. She was seeking spousal support, attorney’s fees, and joint custody of Thomas, the couple’s only underage child at the time.
She filed the papers when it was revealed that Mel’s then-partner, Oksana, had given birth to Lucia. It is important to remark that he didn’t cheat on Robyn as they’d been separated for about three years already.
Apart from that, Mel and Robyn kept things civil during their separation, and the fact that she publicly defended him proved it. In 2010, the actor was involved in a domestic problem as Oksana accused him of hitting her.
To make matters worse, she claimed he did it while she was holding Lucia, who was nine months old at the time. Robyn, however, said that Mel had “never engaged in any physical abuse toward [her]” throughout their time together.
Mel Gibson’s ex-wife reportedly spoke out because she didn’t want people speculating about what happened within her own family. They officially divorced in late 2011 in a reportedly $425 million settlement.
At the moment, Robyn Moore Gibson’s ex-husband is in a relationship with Rosalind Ross and has been trying to come back to Hollywood after all the controversies he’s been involved in. He’s expected to appear in “Last Looks” and a few other projects.
