This month, a mother and her teenage son were both sadly killed while celebrating his birthday. The person responsible for their untimely deaths was the mother’s estranged husband.

June 1, 2021, was supposed to be a glorious day filled with celebration, love, and laughter. However, it ended up turning into a day mudded with sorrow, loss, and heartbreak for one Texas family.

Titus Akins was celebrating his 17th birthday in the early hours of the morning when he and his mother, Holly Beverly’s lives were taken. Fort Worth Police believed the duo were murdered just after midnight.

The tragedy occurred at the apartment that Holly, 39, and her son shared. When Holly’s estranged husband, Timothy Beverly, 39, shot his way inside, the pair was in the home.

Witnesses recalled seeing the woman’s two other children, Tyrell, 12, and Trinity, 18, run outside after hearing gunfire. Timothy shot and killed both his estranged wife and her son, whom he didn’t share with her.

Luckily, Holly’s other children managed to get out of the home without any injuries. Timothy also died at the crime scene when he turned the gun on himself and took his own life.

The shooter and Holly had separated two years ago, but it was unclear if they were still legally married. Police haven’t figured out a motive yet for the senseless murders.

A GoFundMe campaign was started to assist Holly’s two living children. Out of a total goal of $15,000, people have gone above and beyond by donating more than $15,800 to assist the family.

The organizer of the fundraiser described Titus as a helpful, kind, and extremely bright person. In May 2021, the teenager graduated from high school a year early as Valedictorian.

The young boy had loved working and was had just been promoted at McDonald’s after working at the franchise for a short while. Titus had planned to keep working until he could join the army.

His mother was a single parent who worked as a Hope Works Christian Academy teacher in Fort Worth. Sadly, this wasn’t the only murder case involving estranged spouses.

In April 2021, James Matthew Dorsey killed his estranged wife at around 5:10 a.m. at a home in the 22800 block of Fir Court in Santa Clarita. Dorsey tried getting away by stealing his wife’s car and taking the police on a chase.

Last year in May, an Iowa woman was arrested after murdering her estranged husband’s girlfriend. Michelle Boat was convicted of killing Tracy Mondabough, 46, because she was dating her husband.
