Val Kilmer Gets Candid about His Life & Throat Cancer Recovery in Trailer for New Documentary: ‘Emotionally Inspiring’

After a written memoir last year, prolific actor and screen legend Val Kilmer is set to release a documentary detailing his life story and his battle with throat cancer.

Val Kilmer is undoubtedly one of the big names of his generation of actors. The 61-year-old is a recipient of multiple awards and has appeared in a series of high-ranking movies, including “Top Gun.”

A few years ago, fans became curious after seeing less of the iconic actor in movies. Kilmer was diagnosed with throat cancer which reduced his presence on the big stage.

A NEW DOCUMENTARY

After such a long hiatus from the screen, Kilmer took to Twitter to share a piece of exciting news with his fans and followers. He revealed that a documentary detailing his life’s story is on its way to be premiered.

Amazon Studios will be releasing the candid documentary in theatres on July 23, while Amazon Prime subscribers will stream from August 6, 2021.

The documentary will feature behind-the-scenes footage of Kilmer's life spanning 40 years. It includes homemade clips captured by friends and family as well as lovely videos from his works on "Top Gun," "Tombstone," and "Batman Forever."

The film will show Kilmer, and his brother videos shot as kids and give fans a rare glimpse into his life at the peak of his fame and as he maintains his artistic flow now.

The docu-film was directed by gurus Leo Scott and Ting Poo, and it details some of Kilmer’s struggles in recent years. From the trailer, Kilmer’s voice appears different from what it used to be when he had the world in his hands.

The actor’s voice was affected by his battle with throat cancer and subsequent tracheostomy. In the voiceover of the documentary, the 61-year-old could be heard talking about his battle with cancer and stating that he is still recovering.

Although Kilmer’s voice has changed considerably from what it used to be, it has not changed his desire to share his emotional life stories and many battles with his fans and followers.

As different images flashed through the screen, Kilmer could be heard in the background saying that he spent several decades finding his voice in his many characters and movies.

In the teaser, Kilmer reflected on his life, noting that he had behaved poorly and bravely. Some scenes showed the “Kiss Kiss Bang Bang” actor with a voice box on his neck.

Before making his documentary, Kilmer had previously denied rumors that he is down with throat cancer. In 2016, he took to Facebook to refute claims by Michael Douglas of his health condition.

Kilmer later confirmed that he indeed had cancer. Despite his health challenges in recent years, Kilmer’s daughter Mercedes hopes her dad will be an inspiration to other actors with disabilities.

KILMER IS A SCREEN LEGEND

Kilmer is one of the stars directors can call upon and be sure to get the best out of their talent. From comedy to action movies, his skill ranks amongst the best Hollywood has produced.

Kilmer had the world in his palms in the 80s and 90s where most of his best works happened. In 1995, the actor worked wonders as the main character in the hit movie “Batman Forever.”

In 1986, Kilmer worked with top directors Tony Scott and Tom Cruise for “Top Gun.” The film is one of his well-known roles and shot him into fame.

In 1993, Kilmer had one of his biggest projects, “Tombstone.” The 61-year-old is credited for making the movie a massive success with his skills and memorable scenes.

ACTORS WITH DISABILITIES

Kilmer is not the only star to have had challenges with his health. Some other stars were faced by the unwanted enemy, cancer, and came out victorious. Sharon Osbourne is one of the stars with victorious tales about her battle with cancer.

Scottish actor Ewan McGregor also once revealed that sun damage led to a cancerous growth on his face in 2008. A quick visit to a specialist helped resolve the situation before it became life-threatening.
